    摘要: A method for placing ball sealers within a well formed within a subterranean formation for sealing holes in a casing of the well is carried out by performing at least one of two operations. The first operation involves providing a tag with at least one ball sealer or a carrier fluid containing the at least one ball sealer to facilitate monitoring of the location of the ball sealer. A tag monitoring device is provided within the well for monitoring the location of the tag. The ball sealer and carrier fluid with the tag are introduced downhole into the well. Information from the monitor device regarding the location of the tag is communicated to a remote monitoring location to the thereby provide an indication of the location of the tag within the well to a surface location. In the second operation a container is provided within the well at a known location downhole within the well. The container contains at least one ball sealer. The ball sealer or sealers are released from the container within the well at the known location in response to an instruction initiated from a surface location.

    摘要: A multilayered ball sealer having a deformable layer. The multilayered ball sealer has an outer or intermediate layer that is deformable under pressure. In the former, the deformable layer may be water-soluble or hydrolysable. In the latter, the outer layer is a sheath that contains the deformable layer and adapts to its shape. A multilayered ball sealer may be used as a diversion agent by being suspended in a fluid injected into a wellbore and applying pressure to deform the shape of the intermediate layer such that the multilayered ball sealer adapts to the shape of a perforation opening on which the multilayered ball sealer has seated.

The orientation string is removed from the wellbore, and a tool string is run into the wellbore, the tool string including substantially similar components as the orientation string such that the tool string follows substantially the same path as the orientation string.

    摘要: A novel dropoff apparatus adapted for use in a perforating gun or other such apparatus adapted to be disposed in a borehole includes an embrittled carrier section connected to a further section of the perforating gun or other such apparatus. The embrittled carrier section includes an embrittled carrier and a explosive charge, such as a capsule charge, mounted on the embrittled carrier. When the charge detonates, since the carrier section is embrittled, the carrier section is severed from further section of the perforating gun, or other apparatus, and the further section falls to a bottom of the borehole. The carrier section may undergo geometrical embrittlement by disposing a notch through at least one side of the carrier section; when the charge detonates, the carrier section is severed from the further section of the gun, or other apparatus, along a line connected to the notch, the further section of the gun, or other apparatus, falling to a bottom of the borehole. The carrier section may also undergo material embrittlement by heating treating the carrier section to the austenite region, and then quenching the carrier section; when the charge detonates, the carrier section shatters thereby separating the further section of the gun, or other apparatus, from the remainder of the perforating gun, the further section of the gun, or other apparatus, falling to a bottom of the borehole.

    摘要: A pivot gun through-tubing perforating apparatus, which is adapted to be lowered through a tubing in a borehole, includes a perforating gun section and a deployment head section. The perforating gun section includes a plurality of charges which rotate or pivot about an axis during deployment, and a stationary detonating cord. When each charge rotates during deployment, a top of each charge slidingly engages with a stationary detonating cord. The deployment head includes a first explosive bolt, a second explosive bolt, and a piston having a contact finger which is adapted to contact either one of three switch contacts. When the contact finger contacts a first and second switch contact, the first explosive bolt is connected to a voltage source and each of the charges are short circuited to ground potential. In this condition, the charges cannot detonate, and, when the first explosive bolt detonates, the charges begin to deploy in response to movement of the piston. When the contact finger moves from the first and second switch contact to a third switch contact, the short circuit to the charges is removed, and the charges are reconnected to the voltage source. In addition, the second explosive bolt is connected to the voltage source and the charges may then detonate when current is received from the voltage source. If the charges fail to detonate, the second explosive bolt facilitates the retrieval of the gun from within the tubing in the wellbore. If the second explosive bolt fails, a weak linkage between charges and pullrods enables the gun to be retrieved from within the tubing.
