Abstract: A bearing housing assembly includes a bearing housing and a bearing assembly. The housing extends along an axis and has a cross-bore surface defining a cross-bore to receive lubricant and a feed groove surface defining a feed groove. The feed groove surface has a constant radial portion extending circumferentially about a majority of the axis with a first groove radius that is constant and an expanded radial portion extending from the constant radial portion circumferentially about the axis with a second groove radius larger than the first groove radius. The bearing housing also has an interior surface having an interior radius smaller than the first groove radius and defining an interior. The bearing assembly is disposed in the interior and includes an outer race having a receiving groove surface defining a receiving groove, an inner race, and a rolling element disposed between the outer race and the inner race.

Abstract: A turbocharger includes a bearing housing defining an interior. The turbocharger also includes a shaft and a thrust bearing assembly disposed about the shaft. The thrust bearing assembly includes a thrust plate defining a bore configured to receive the shaft and having a first thrust surface which is integral. The thrust bearing assembly also includes a bearing having a second thrust surface which is integral. The thrust bearing assembly further includes a washer disposed between the thrust plate and the bearing. The washer has a third thrust surface which is integral, and an opposite fourth thrust surface which is integral. The third thrust surface faces the first thrust surface for engagement with the first thrust surface, and the fourth thrust surface faces the second thrust surface for engagement with the second thrust surface.

Abstract: A full-floating bearing for reducing vibration of a shaft of a turbocharger has a central axis and includes an outer surface and an inner surface. The outer surface is configured to face away from the central axis. The inner surface is configured to face the central axis and is radially spaced from the outer surface such that the inner surface is configured to be disposed between the central axis and the outer surface. An aperture is defined between the outer surface and the inner surface and configured to allow lubricant to flow between the outer surface and the inner surface. The inner surface has a surface profile for reducing vibration of the shaft of the turbocharger. The surface profile is defined by the equation Ro=Rb+A Sin(3θ+Φ).

Abstract: A turbocharger includes a compressor wheel, a shaft, a bearing housing, and a floating ring. The shaft is coupled to the compressor wheel and extends through the bearing housing. The bearing housing includes an inner housing surface extending circumferentially around the shaft. The floating ring rotatably supports the shaft in the bearing housing and rotates relative to the bearing housing and the shaft. The floating ring includes an outer bearing surface that extends circumferentially around the shaft and that faces the inner peripheral housing surface. The inner housing surface is formed of a rigid material and has an inner housing cross-sectional shape that in a first axially outer region of the inner housing surface is non-circular perpendicular to the axis, decreases in area moving axially toward a first axial end, and forms a first outer fluid film interface with the outer bearing surface of the floating ring.
