Abstract: A modular audio system which includes an acoustic module configured to be removably engaged with a head-worn peripheral device. In some examples, the head-worn peripheral device is a pair of eyeglass frames and the acoustic module is configured to removably secure to a socket arranged on the inside face of the temples of the eyeglasses. The acoustic module can slidingly, pivotably, and/or magnetically engage with the socket such that, when secured, the acoustic module is configured to generate acoustic energy in the form of audible sound proximate a user's ear while the user is wearing the head-worn peripheral device. In other examples, the temples of the head-worn peripheral device are configured to slidingly engage with a sleeve, where the sleeve includes a pocket configured to slidingly engage with the acoustic module.

Abstract: Various aspects include wearable audio devices with through-hinge wiring configurations. In particular aspects, a wearable audio device includes a hinge coupling a first section and one additional section; and a cable extending through the hinge. In various implementations, the hinge is overmolded on the cable and includes: a body defining a cavity accommodating the cable with a first opening to a pathway in the first section, and a second opening to an additional pathway in the one additional section; an insert within the body and adjacent the first opening, the insert defining a minimum radius of a bend in the cable within the cavity; a hinge mechanism contained within the body; and a cable management feature contained within the body, wherein the hinge mechanism, cable management feature and cable are all located in a common plane that is radially oriented relative to the primary axis of the hinge mechanism.

Abstract: An audio system and methods for detecting proximity between or engagement between a removable open-ear acoustic module and a host device. Upon detection of proximity or engagement, the audio system may adjust at least one device setting of the devices in the system. In some examples, the devices of the audio system are capable of obtaining specific identifying information about the other devices, and can be configured to adjust the at least one device setting based on device identity. For example, adjusting the device settings can include an adjustment to power state of the open-ear acoustic module, an audio equalization (EQ) setting, a volume setting, a bass level setting, a treble level setting, an Active Noise Reduction (ANR) setting, a user profile setting, selection of an algorithm of a plurality of algorithms related to data collection, a sensor calibration setting, and a user interface control setting.
