摘要: Systems and techniques, including computer program products, for generating sequences of program items. A specification of a sequence is received. A specification of multiple sets, where each set includes one or more program items, is also received. An output sequence of program items is generated by selecting program items from the sets based on the specified sequence. In some implementations, program items are selected by assigning each program item a score, and identifying the program item with the best score. An attribute can be associated with each program item. The attributes can be used to group the program items into sets, to determine the scores of the program items, and to select program items to be placed in the generated output sequence. The rules and the set sequence can be adjusted dynamically, and the generated output sequence can be modified by adding, removing, or replacing program items.

摘要: A multi-level error diffusion system includes a processor that creates an m by n super pixel cell as an output pixel value for individual ones of a plurality of single input pixel values that are indicative of an image. The processor assigns to individual ones of the m by n super pixel cells available printer output color values, where the average of the assigned output values are selected to be as close as possible to corresponding individual one of the single input pixel values. A multi-level printer receives the individual ones of the m by n super pixel cells having assigned output values and converts them into printer data to form a printed image.

摘要: A camera which powers up in a default fixed-focus mode and has a capability whereby the photographer can select an auto-focus mode. The camera includes a lens, a shutter and a motor for moving the lens and for opening the shutter. A CCD, electrically interconnected to an analog to digital signal converter, receives image data and transforms the data to analogs for transmission to the converter where a digital output signals is generated. The digital signal is electrically transmitted to a processor which is electrically connected to the motor. In the camera default fixed focus mode, a first control algorithm facilitates a process wherein the processor generates an electrical signal to cause the motor to move the lens directly to a control position. To elect the auto-focus mode of camera operation, the photographer depresses a button and thereby selects a process which functions in accordance with the steps of a second control algorithm wherein the processor generates an electrical signal to cause the motor to move the lens past a focal point, and a second signal to cause the lens to backstep to the focal point. When the auto mode is selected, an icon appears on a data liquid crystal display (LCD) to indicate that auto focus mode is selected.

摘要: A method, system, and computer program product allow users to skip and/or to fast-forward through media items such as songs, while limiting the extent to which skipping is allowed in order to maintain conformance with sound performance complement restrictions such as those specified by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If the user requests a skip that may result in a DMCA violation, the skip is disallowed and the request is denied. Playlists are constructed so that the sound recording performance complement limitations are applied to a longer time period than the period specified in the DMCA, the longer time period being defined by adding an “excess time” to the normal DMCA period. If the user attempts to skip a song or song portion that would cause the aggregated skipped amount to exceed the excess time, the skip is disallowed.

摘要: Files are divided into parts and at least some of the parts are transmitted to a client using a communication channel. At least some of the transmitted parts are cached locally. This allows subsequent streaming playback of the file while using less bandwidth by transmitting the part of the file that hasn't been cached, and combining the cached parts with the transmitted parts. In some embodiments, files may be represented at a low quality level by a first data set, and at higher quality levels with additional data sets. Data sets are cached locally, so that during subsequent streaming playback of the file, the quality level of the playback may be improved by sending additional data sets using bandwidth that would otherwise be dedicated to transmitting the cached data sets.

摘要: Described is an electronic device for performing certain operations and includes a continuous operating unit providing operations benefitting from a backup battery for providing backup power to the continuous operating unit. The battery is installed in the electronic device at the time of manufacture and is connected to the continuous operating unit through a switch which is in the open position at the time of manufacture of the electronic device. An input device allows a user to input signals to the electronic device. A central processing unit is connected to the continuous operating unit and receives the input signals from the input device. The central processing unit contains firmware for performing the operations of the electronic device and the central processing unit closes the switch when a predetermined parameter is received from the input device. A main power source is connected to the central processing unit and the continuous operating unit for providing operating power to the central processing unit and the continuous operating unit. Also described is a method of operating an electronic device including executing an initialization procedure when an on/off control of a electronic device is actuated to an on condition, obtaining input information via an input device, analyzing the input information in a central processing unit to determine if a predetermined parameter is being input for the first time and closing a circuit between a backup battery and a continuous operating unit via a signal from the central processing unit when the predetermined parameter is input for the first time.
