    Abstract: A method of determining potential routes for a transportation refrigeration unit (TRU) powered by an electric energy storage device is provided. The method comprising: storing container parameters of a container to store perishable goods, TRU parameters of the TRU to control environment conditions within container, and perishable good requirements for transporting the perishable goods within the container; receiving route parameters, weather parameters, and perishable good parameters; determining one or more potential routes in response to the route parameters; determining a TRU predicted operation along each of the one or more potential routes in response to at least one of the route parameters, container parameters, TRU parameters, weather parameters, perishable good parameters, and perishable good requirements; and determining a predicted energy consumption from the energy storage device by the TRU along each of the one or more potential routes in response to the TRU predicted operation and energy storage device parameters.

    Abstract: A transportation refrigeration unit (TRU) system is provided and includes a damper assembly configured to direct air flows through first or second pathways and an evaporator disposed in the first pathway, a coil element surrounded by phase change material (PCM) and disposed in the second pathway and a routing assembly configured to direct refrigerant through the evaporator or the coil element. With the PCM pre-cooled, the damper and routing assemblies are controllable to respectively direct the air flows through the first pathway and the refrigerant through the evaporator when first conditions are met and to respectively direct the air flows through the second pathway when second conditions are met.

    Abstract: A trailer refrigeration unit is provided. Aspects include a plurality of power sources, wherein the plurality power sources are selectively coupled to a power converter and at least one compressor. The power converter is coupled to at least one fan and is selectively coupled to the at least one compressor. A microcontroller circuit is included and is configured to selectively operate the trailer refrigeration unit in one of a plurality of modes based on an environmental parameter within the trailer refrigeration unit. The plurality of modes includes a first mode where the at least one compressor and at least one fan are powered by the power converter and a second mode where the at least one compressor is powered by at least one of the plurality of power sources.

    Abstract: A supervisory-level control system is provided and includes a summation unit receptive of first and second signals, an HVAC system to generate the second signal according to first set-point signals and to a second set-point signal and a supervisory controller. The supervisory controller includes a control unit, a set-point scheduler and a zone level set-point distribution unit. The control unit is receptive of an error signal representing a difference between the first and second signals from the summation unit. The set-point scheduler is receptive of a demand signal generated by the control unit according to the error signal. The set-point scheduler generates a set-point command signal and the second set-point signal according to the demand signal.
