Abstract: There is provided a projection apparatus which includes a projection unit configured to project an image, an acquisition device configured to acquire a distance between an apparatus main body and a projection target, a ranging device including a ranging axis which is substantially parallel to a projection optical axis of the projection unit, and a controller configured to control a projection operation, based on a result of ranging of the ranging device with reference to the distance acquired by the acquisition device.
