摘要： An apparatus for dispensing an individual plastic fastener from continuously connected ladder stock including an elongated side member having a plurality of T-bars interconnected by severable connectors. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a hollow, gun-shaped casing having a barrel portion and a handle portion. The front end of the barrel portion has an opening into which a hollow slotted needle is removably mounted. A triggering mechanism, which includes a pivotally-mounted trigger, is connected to the handle portion of the casing. A slider assembly, which is actuated by squeezing the trigger, includes a slider adapted to travel along longitudinally extending rails formed along the inside of the barrel portion of the casing. Movement of the slider is coupled to a feeding/severing/ejecting assembly, which collectively functions to feed a T-bar disposed at one end of the elongated side member into the hollow slotted needle, to break the severable connector connecting the inserted T-bar to the remainder of the elongated side member, and to eject the inserted T-bar from the hollow, slotted needle. In a preferred embodiment, the severable connector is broken by pivoting the rear portion of the connector away from the front portion of the connector.

The fastener clip, which preferably does not contain a runner bar, comprises a plurality of identical fasteners of the aforementioned type, each of the fasteners being arranged in a parallel, side-by-side, spaced relationship. A connector post connects the first transverse bars of adjacent fasteners, and a connector post connects the second transverse bars of adjacent fasteners. An extra transverse bar is connected by a connector post to the first transverse bar of the last fastener, and another extra transverse bar is connected by a connector post to the second transverse bar of the last fastener, the extra transverse bars not being interconnected by a flexible filament.

摘要： A needle for use as part of a fastener dispensing tool adapted for dispensing plastic fasteners of the type typically used to attach tags to products for marking and identification. In one embodiment, the needle is made from a single sheet of metal by a stamping and/or rolling technique, and comprises an elongated, generally cylindrical, hollow, slotted member having a stem portion and a base portion. The stem portion terminates at its front end in a relatively sharp tip. The base portion, which is sized and shaped for insertion in an opening in the nose of the tool, includes a pair of outwardly extending, spring biased tabs. A first portion of one of the tabs is sized and shaped to releasably engage a recessed area formed in one of the walls of the opening so as to prevent unintended removal of the base portion from the opening and to limit rearward insertion of the base portion into the opening. This first portion also extends partially out of the opening so as to permit a user to grasp it and to push it inwardly out of engagement with the recessed area. A second portion of the same tab is sized and shaped to engage another wall of the opening so as to prevent upward movement of the base portion in the opening. The other tab serves as a registration member to align the base portion in its desired longitudinally, vertical and axial orientations.

In one embodiment, the needle includes a shank portion and a base portion, the shank portion having a front section shaped to define a spoon-shaped tip. The tip has a blunt point with a radius approximately twice that of conventional needles. The distance from the point to where the tip reaches full diameter is approximately 80% of the distance typically found in conventional needles, and the full diameter of the tip is less than that in conventional needles. The side profile of the top edges of the tip are flat or downwardly-curved as opposed to being upwardly-curved in conventional needles. The distance across the tip at its widest point between opposing top edges is less than that in conventional needles.

摘要： A fastener attaching tool particularly suited for use in attaching buttons to clothing, etc. and which is constructed for use with a fastener clip which includes a pair of runner bars and one or more U-shaped fasteners having transverse bars at opposite ends, each transverse bar being connected on its side to a corresponding runner bar by a severable connector post. The tool includes a pair of needles each having a longitudinal slotted bore adapted to receive one of the transverse bars and a knife edge formed on one side which is adapted to sever a connector post from its associated transverse bar as the transverse bar is pushed through the needle. The body includes a transverse feed slot disposed just to the rear of the needles down through which the fastener clip is manually inserted. The tool also includes an ejector mechanism, which is slidably mounted back and forth within the body and is rearwardly biased by a spring. The ejector mechanism is manually operable from the rear of the body and includes a pair of ejector rods which are slidably back and forth within the bores of the needles and are used to push the transverse bars into and through the needles.

The tool, according to one aspect, is a hand-held tool adapted for use with the above fastener and comprises (a) a casing, the casing being provided with a needle opening; (b) a hollow, slotted needle, the hollow, slotted needle being slidably movable back and forth between a retracted position disposed entirely within the casing and an extended position extending through the needle opening, the hollow, slotted needle being adapted to receive a transverse bar of the fastener; (c) an ejector rod, the ejector rod being slidably movable back and forth through the hollow, slotted needle to eject the enlargement disposed therein; and (d) an anvil coupled to the casing and extending in front of the needle opening, the anvil being positioned so that the hollow, slotted needle, when in said extended position, does not extend therebeyond.
