In some cases, a UE may transmit sounding reference signals (SRS) to a network entity, receive information indicating at least one of a set of one or more frequency domain (FD) bases and linear combination coefficients, determined based on the SRS transmission, determine subband precoding based at least in part on linear combinations of the FD bases based on the linear combination coefficients, and transmit a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) with the subband precoding.

In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive, configuration information indicating that the UE is to compress a precoding matrix indicator in connection with channel state information reporting, wherein the precoding matrix indicator is to be compressed based at least in part on a quantization dependency between transmission layers or an orthogonality relationship between the transmission layers, and wherein the configuration information is associated with a type II, higher rank codebook for multiple input multiple output configuration. The UE may transmit, to a base station (BS), the compressed precoding matrix indicator to the base station based at least in part on receiving the configuration information. The UE and BS may use a communication configuration based at least in part on a precoding matrix indicator recovered from the compressed precoding matrix indicator. A method that can be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a CSI report configuration. The CSI report configuration configures the UE for reporting precoding matrix information including, for each layer, a plurality of selected beams L, a plurality of frequency domain compression bases F for the L beams, and a subset of linear combination coefficients associated with the frequency domain compression bases and beams. The UE can determine a number of coefficients to report for a higher rank based on a configured maximum number of coefficients to report for a lower rank.

A method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE) (120a) includes receiving a CSI report configuration for frequency domain compressed precoder matrix feedback. The CSI report configuration configures the UE (120a) to report, for a plurality of selected beams at a plurality of time domain taps, a frequency domain compression basis vector and a plurality of linear combination coefficients associated with the frequency domain compression (805). For each of the beams, the UE (120a) groups the time domain taps into at least first and second groups. The groups each can have zero, one, or more than one time domain taps (810). The UE (120a) quantizes the corresponding linear combination coefficients and/or frequency domain compression basis vectors based on the grouping (815).

The method includes performing CSI measurement based on the determination.
