The steering column is designed to be variable in its inclination and length, and a clamp for securing the steering column is provided. In order to increase the safety of the vehicle occupants, while at the same time maintaining known comfort functions, and to ensure a reliable use of the steering column arrangement, it is proposed to connect the steering column to the console by the clamp via a console slide which is mounted displaceably on the console. Furthermore, an actuation element operatively connected to the clamp is provided for releasing and locking the clamp, and the operative connection is releasable.
