Abstract: A network node selectively encrypts messages between a user plane node and a control plane node in a network system. The user plane node and the control plane node negotiate a connection and indicate an encryption level for the connection. The encryption level is selected from an Information Element (IE) level, a message level, or a feature level. The user plane node and the control plane node selectively encrypt at least a portion of the messages between the user plane node and the control plane node based on the encryption level for the connection.

Abstract: Presented herein are techniques to facilitate dynamic negotiation and compression of Packet Forwarding Control Protocol (PFCP) messages in a mobile networking environment. In one example, a method includes identifying, by a function, a negotiated compression algorithm to utilize for compressing one or more Packet Forwarding Control Protocol (PFCP) messages; determining whether a payload for a particular PFCP message is to be compressed based on at least one of system resources of the function and a size of the payload; based on determining that the payload is to be compressed, compressing the payload utilizing the negotiated compression algorithm to generate a compressed PFCP message; and setting a compression indication in a header of the compressed PFCP message.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems and techniques for improved signaling of subscriber information and updates thereto for one or more location-based user plane services. In one examples, the systems and techniques can include determining the existence of a converged User Plane Function (UPF) comprising a Serving Gateway User Plane (SGW-U) session and a Packet Data Network (PDN) Gateway User Plane (PGW-U) session. In response to determining the existence of the converged UPF, User Equipment (UE) information can be transmitted from a Serving Gateway Control Plane (SGW-C) session to the SGW-U session of the converged UPF. The UE information received at the SGW-U session can be shared to the PGW-U session of the converged UPF, wherein the PGW-U session receives the UE information without communicating with a PDN Gateway Control Plane (PGW-C) session.
