摘要: A device for treating cardiac disease of a heart includes a jacket of flexible material defining a volume between an open upper end and a lower end. The jacket is dimensioned for an apex of the heart to be inserted into the volume through the open upper end and for the jacket to be slipped over the heart. The jacket is adapted to be secured to the heart with the jacket having portions disposed on opposite sides of the heart. The jacket is adjustable to snugly conform to an external geometry of the heart and to constrain circumferential expansion of the heart during diastole and permit substantially unimpeded contraction of the heart during systole. A first and a second grid of electrodes are carried on the jacket. The grids are disposed to be in overlying relation to individual ones of the opposite sides of the heart when the jacket is secured to the heart. The first and second grids are connectable to a source of a defibrillating waveform.

摘要: Visualization of a medical procedure to be performed in a coronary vessel (such as a coronary sinus) of a patient is achieved by the steps of: identifying a coronary vessel for a procedure and placing a catheter within the coronary vessel. The coronary vessel is occluded at a site proximal to a distal end of the catheter. A contrast medium is injected into the coronary vessel through the catheter distal end for visualization of the procedure within the coronary vessel. Following the procedure, the contrast medium is removed through the catheter distal end and occlusion of the coronary vessel is discontinued.

摘要: A method for treating cardiac disease includes accessing a heart and restricting a blood supply to the heart to reduce a size of the heart. A constraining device is placed on the heart. The constraining device is secured to the heart with the constraining device having portions disposed on opposite sides of the heart to constrain circumferential expansion of the heart during diastole and permit unimpeded contraction of the heart during systole. Access to the heart is closed while leaving the constraining device in place on the heart.

摘要: An intra-bronchial device placed and anchored in an air passageway of a patient to collapse a lung portion associated with the air passageway. The device includes a support structure, an obstructing member carried by the support structure that reduces ventilation to the lung portion by preventing air from being inhaled into the lung portion, and at least one anchor carried by the support structure that anchors the obstruction device within the air passageway. The anchor may engage the air passageway wall by piercing or friction, include a stop dimensioned for limiting the piercing of the air passageway wall, and may be releasable from the air passageway for removal of the intra-bronchial device. The anchors may be carried by a peripheral portion of the support structure, or by a central portion of the support structure. The obstructing member may be a one-way valve.
