Abstract: An oral care evaluation process may include: illuminating soft oral tissue within an oral cavity with a light source emitting a spectrum of light which induces fluorescence in an organic compound; generating image data for an image of the soft oral tissue while illuminating the soft oral tissue, the image comprising a plurality of pixels; and evaluating oral hygiene using a programmable processor programmed to assess an attribute of each pixel of the image.

Abstract: An oral care evaluation system may include: a light source configured to emit a spectrum of light which induces fluorescence in an organic compound, the light source illuminating soft oral tissue within an oral cavity; an image sensor receiving light generated by fluorescence of the organic compound on the soft oral tissue, the image sensor generating image data for an image of the oral tissue, the image comprising a plurality of pixels; and an image processor receiving the image data from the image sensor and programmed to evaluate oral hygiene of the soft oral tissue by assessing an attribute of each pixel in the image.
