Abstract:
The invention relates to a high-integrity closure, sift-proof carton [10], a method and an adhesive dispensing apparatus for producing same. Foamed hot melt adhesive is dispensed in parallel strips from dispensing guns onto the flaps [20], [22], [30], [32] of the carton [10], which are thereafter folded down to close the carton [10]. The strips can be spaced so that a continuous tight adhesive seal is formed, especially by providing a strip pattern interdigitating when the flaps contact each other. Since all strips are provided in parallel, while the carton is moved with respect to the dispensing apparatus, application of adhesive is fast and reliable.
Abstract:
A method for the application of highly absorbent material onto a moving substrate includes the steps of dispensing a melt adhesive film onto precisely defined areas of the substrate, covering such areas with the absorbent material and then removing excess absorbent material which did not adhere to the adhesive coated areas. The apparatus for practicing this method includes, in one embodiment, an adhesive applicator head operable to dispense the adhesive at timed intervals onto the moving substrate, a measuring head located downstream from the applicator head and timed to release the absorbent material over the adhesive covered areas moving past and a vacuum or mechanical cleaning device for removing excess absorbent material from the substrate. In an alternative embodiment, the measuring head is replaced with a receptacle containing absorbent material within which the substrate is immersed for coating the adhesive covered areas. The method and apparatus are particularly adapted for use with conventional machines in the manufacture of hygenic articles such as sanitary pads, tampons, diapers and the like.
Abstract:
A device for the two-dimensional application of free-flowing adhesive to strip material, especially to furniture edge banding. An adhesive channel is contained in an applicator head and an applicator valve selectively blocks or releases the flow of adhesive in the adhesive channel. A slot nozzle communicates with the adhesive channel, which nozzle has a slot-shaped exit opening for dispensing adhesive onto the strip material. A guide device for guiding the strip material past the exit opening of the slot nozzle along a defined path is removably attached to the applicator head. The guide device includes a first guide element which comes in contact during operation with the surface of the strip material opposite the surface to be glued, and at least one additional guide element which comes in contact during operation with an edge of the strip material.
Abstract:
Wheel apparatus (1) for applying adhesive to books includes a wheel (30) rotating about a horizontal axis. A portion of the wheel below the axis rotates between two walls (90) rising from the bottom of the adhesive reservoir (34). A metering surface (84) extends from a step (80) near the bottom of the wheel in a curve slightly diverging from the wheel to a terminal edge (88) extending between walls (90). Walls (90) and step (80) and surface (84) serve to meter the amount of adhesive carried by wheel (30) for application. Walls (90) are spaced from side walls (70, 72) to form recirculate channels for adhesive. The wheel (30) and a counter-rotary spinner wheel (32) are carried by a frame (46) pivoted on reservoir (34) so the wheel (30, 32) can be moved away from reservoir (34) for cleaning purposes.
