Abstract:
Blanks (10) for hinge-lid packs are provided with glue in the form of glue spots (29). A plurality of rows of glue spots, namely spot rows (33 to 36), are distributed over the blank (10) in such a manner that the pack collar (84) and the inner wrapping (82) are sufficiently fixed, and that a lid inner tab (22) is permanently connected to a lid front wall (20). The glue spots (29) are applied by a gluing unit (37) which can be removed as a unit from the packaging machine and which is connected to a glue container via a main glue line (56).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of forming a pre-wrapped gift package which appears to have been hand wrapped. The method includes forming a sheet of box construction material with decorative paper affixed thereto into a flattened box tube by joining ends thereof. The box construction material is properly creased and provided with flaps so that a consumer may erect the flattened box tube into an open box so that the end flaps form ends of the box and the decorative paper forms a pair of paper flaps which may be overlapped and secured. A volume sizer is provided in the form of creased box construction material which, when erected, provides an illustration of the volume made available when the pre-wrapped gift box is erected. Box loading devices, particularly useful for shirt box sized packages, are provided in the form of inner sleeves and mechanical devices into which the gift is placed before insertion into the pre-wrapped gift box. Side loading, top opening configurations provide additional support for the pre-wrapped appearance. Gathering triangles are provided between flaps to aid in the closing of the flaps to form the pre-wrapped gift package.
Abstract:
A mailer product is provided which is formed from a single sheet of paper having first, second and third sections. The first and second sections are separated by a first transverse line and the second and third sections are separated by a second transverse line. The sheet of paper is foldable along the first and second transverse lines so that the first section overlies the second section and the third section overlies the first and second sections. First adhesive material is provided on one of the first and the second sections of the sheet for securing the first and the second sections to one another when the sheet is folded along the first transverse line, thereby forming a return envelope. Second adhesive material is located on at least one of the first, second and third sections for securing the third section to at least one of the first and the second sections when the sheet is folded along the second transverse line, thereby forming a closed mailer. A method and apparatus is further provided for forming such a one-piece mailer.

A flattened pull bow is provided to form a gift wrapping kit with the flattened box tube which may be distributed and displayed in a flat package.
Abstract:
The method of producing sheets of reinforced paper comprising printing a hot-melt adhesive at pre-selected positions onto the surface of a continuously moving web of paper. The method also includes cooling the adhesive and cutting and trimming the web into sheets of paper, the adhesive forming the reinforcement at desired positions on the paper. The hot-melt adhesive is preferably a linearic copolyester such as GRILESTA 6505 (GRILESTA is a Registered Trade Mark).

Blanks (10) for hinge-lid packs are provided with glue in the form of glue spots (29a to 29i). A plurality of rows (33 to 36) of the glue spots are distributed over the blank (10) in such a manner that the pack collar (84) and the inner wrapping (82) are sufficiently fixed, and that a lid inner tab (22) is permanently connected to a lid front wall (20). The glue spots (29a to 29i) are applied by a gluing unit (37) which can be removed as a unit from the packaging machine and which is connected to a glue container via a main glue line (56).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for blowing away particles of glue in a strip-gluing unit for folding box forming machines for gluing box blanks. Compressed air is blown from the side of a gluing disc of the gluing unit at an acute angle obliquely towards the direction of travel of the blank at the height of the nip between the blank and gluing disc so that on account of the high speed of the blanks and gluing disc, particles of glue which are thrown off are removed on the shortest path, without these particles splashing on the blanks and machine parts. The air is blown by an air-guide member, which comprises an air chamber, which is connected by lines to a source of compressed air. Starting from the air chamber is a bore whose axis is directed at the height of a nip at the acute angle. The air-guide member is attached in the folding box sticking machine independently of the gluing unit and is seated laterally beside the gluing disc and serves simultaneously to support the travelling blanks.
Abstract:
A hot melt adhesive applicator comprises an enclosed wheel glue pot (2) the sides (3, 4, 5) of which fit closely to the sides of the applicator wheel (6), a doctor blade (7) preceding the applicator wheel, an anti-stringout wheel (8) following the applicator wheel, a remote tank (9) forming a reservoir for adhesive, a flexible hose (10) from the tank (9) to the glue pot (2), a pump (11) for feeding adhesive from the tank (9) through the hose (10), heating means for the tank and hose and glue pot, passages (12A, 12B, 13-FIGS. 3 and 6) in one side (5) of the glue pot (2) for feeding adhesive from the hose (10) to a pool (14) between the underside of the doctor blade (7) and the periphery of the applicator wheel (6), and switch means (15) for actuating the pump (11), there also being provided a chamber (16) between the hose (10) and the passages (12A, 12B, 13) in the glue pot (6), with an inlet (17) from the hose (10) and an outlet (18) to the passages (12A, 12B, 13) in the glue pot (2), and adhesive level sensing means (19) in the chamber (16) adapted to operate the switch means (15) when the adhesive level (L) in the chamber (16) falls below a predetermined level.
Abstract:
Apparatus for applying a coating to a surface of a moving workpiece comprises a coating dispenser having at least one coating outlet spaced apart from the workpiece surface for dispensing a stream of coating. A dispenser control unit is operatively coupled with the dispensing means for initiating and terminating the dispensing of the stream of coating as predetermined parts of the workpiece surface come into alignment with the coating outlet. The invention provides an anti-tailing device coacting with the stream of coating intermediate the outlet and the workpiece surface for substantially preventing tailing of the stream of coating following termination of dispensing thereof.
Abstract:
An apparatus for applying sealant to a side seam in a container sidewall formed by overlapping portions of the sidewall is provided. The apparatus includes conveying means operable for moving a container into and away from a sealing station. Sensing means is located adjacent the conveying means and is operable for sensing the rotational position of a container sidewall. Drive means is operable for selectively rotating a container to a predetermined rotational position. A sealant dispensing means is positioned adjacent the conveying means at the sealing station and is operable for dispensing sealant onto the seam along substantially the entire length of the seam by a movement of the dispensing means relative to the container. A second sealant dispensing means and station can be provided adjacent the conveying means for applying sealant to a seam between a bottom member and the sidewall of the container.
