    摘要: The optical fibers disclosed is a single mode optical fiber having a core region and a cladding region surrounding and directly adjacent to the core region. The core region can have a radius r1 in a range from 3.0 microns to 6.0 microns and a core volume V1 less than 6.0%-micron2. The cladding region can include a first outer cladding region and a second outer cladding region surrounding and directly adjacent to the first outer cladding region. The first outer cladding region can have a radius r4a, the second outer cladding region can have a radius r4b less than or equal to 65 microns and comprising silica based glass doped with titania. The disclosed single mode optical fiber can have a fiber cutoff wavelength λCF less than 1530 nm.

    摘要: The present disclosure provides optical fibers with an impact-resistant coating system. The fibers feature low microbending and high mechanical reliability. The coating system includes a primary coating and a secondary coating. The primary coating and secondary coating have reduced thickness to provide reduced radius fibers without sacrificing protection. The primary coating has a low spring constant and sufficient thickness to resist transmission of force to the glass fiber. The secondary coating has high puncture resistance. The outer diameter of the optical fiber is less than or equal to 200 μm.

    摘要: The present description provides multimode optical fibers with reduced cladding thickness. The optical fibers include a reduced-diameter glass fiber and/or reduced-thickness coatings. The overall diameter of the optical fibers is less than 210 μm and examples with diameters less than 160 μm are presented. Puncture resistant secondary coatings enable thinning of the secondary coating without compromising protection of the glass fiber. The optical fibers are suitable for data center applications and features high modal bandwidth, low attenuation, low microbending sensitivity, and puncture resistance in a compact form factor.

    摘要: A method is used to select a multimode fiber meeting requirements of a first minimum bandwidth at a first wavelength and a second minimum bandwidth at a second wavelength different from the first wavelength. Differential mode delay (DMD) data is measured for the multimode fiber at the first wavelength. The DMD data comprises output laser pulse data as a function of the radial position of an input laser pulse having the first wavelength. The DMD data is transformed into mode group space, to obtain relative mode group delay data as a function of mode group. The multimode fiber is selected based on meeting requirements of the first minimum bandwidth at the first wavelength based on a first set of criteria, comprising a first criterion using as input the measured differential mode delay (DMD) data for the multimode fiber measured at the first wavelength. The multimode fiber is selected based on meeting requirements of the second minimum bandwidth at the second wavelength based on a second set of criteria, comprising: a second criterion using as input the relative mode group delay data. A related system is also described.

    摘要: According to embodiments, an optical fiber may include a core portion comprising a radius rC, a centerline CL, a numerical aperture NA greater than or equal to 0.15 and less than or equal to 0.25, a graded relative refractive index profile having a maximum relative refractive index ΔCmax and an α value greater than or equal to 1 and less than or equal to 3. The core portion may include an up-dopant with a graded concentration from the radius rC to the centerline CL and an attenuation dopant with a constant concentration from the centerline CL of the core portion to the radius rC of the core portion. The optical fiber is multi-moded for wavelengths of light within a range from 800 nm to 1350 nm and an attenuation of the optical fiber wavelengths between 800 nm and 1000 nm is greater than or equal to 0.5 dB/m.

    摘要: A multi-purpose optical fiber with coating is provided. The optical fiber can function as a transmission fiber or as a coupling fiber for optical data links that features low coupling loss to silicon photonics lasers, VCSELs, single mode transmission fibers, multimode transmission fibers, and high speed receivers. The fiber includes a core, an optional inner cladding region, a depressed index cladding region, an outer cladding region, and a coating. The relative refractive index profile of the coupling fiber includes a small-radius core region with α profile and a depressed index cladding region that facilitates low bending loss and high bandwidth. The coating thickness and overall diameter of the fiber is small.
