The method comprises associating a steering characteristic with a respective parameter set of a plurality of predetermined parameter sets. Detecting an instantaneous working condition of the agricultural tractor by a control unit. Selecting a parameter set from the plurality of predetermined parameter sets based on the detected instantaneous working condition; and activating an actuating device based on the selected parameter set to adapt a steering characteristic to the detected instantaneous working condition.
