    Abstract: A rotary actuator includes a front housing, a middle housing, and a rear housing. The middle housing has an annular part, a front side extension part extending from the annular part toward the front housing, a rear side extension part extending from the annular part toward the rear housing, a plurality of front side convex parts projected from an outer circumference wall of the front side extension part outward in the radial direction to be in contact with an inner wall of the front housing, and a plurality of rear side convex parts projected from an inner circumference wall of the rear side extension part inward in the radial direction to be in contact with an outer edge part of the stator.

    Abstract: An actuator includes a manually operable portion that is operable to transmit rotation to an output shaft. The manually operable portion is provided such that the manually operable portion extends through a housing while at least a portion of the manually operable portion is exposed to an outside of the housing. In this way, even in a case where the actuator becomes inoperable, it is possible to change a shift range by rotating the output shaft through operation of the manually operable portion. It is only required to have a connection hole, which is conventionally provided at an outer wall of a transmission case, as a hole, which connects this rotary actuator to a shift range change mechanism. Therefore, it is sufficient to perform only a relatively small improvement, such as providing screw holes for fixing the actuator in a preexisting transmission.

The controller is disposed in an opening of the case and controls the motor. The cover closes the opening of the case. The cover fixing member fixes the cover to the case. The cover fixing member fixes the cover to the case at a position outside of a board of the controller. The board is clamped between the cover and the case.

    Abstract: A rotary actuator includes a motor, an output shaft, and a speed reducer. The motor includes a motor shaft rotating about an axial direction. The output shaft is disposed in parallel with the motor shaft. The speed reducer reduces a rotational speed of the motor and transmits rotation of the motor at a reduced rotational speed to the output shaft. The speed reducer includes a parallel-shaft type reducer that has a drive gear on the motor shaft and a driven gear on the output shaft. One side and the other side in the axial direction are defined as a first side and a second side, respectively. The motor is located on the first side of the speed reducer in the axial direction. The driven gear includes a teeth portion having a gear end surface on the first side of the teeth portion. The motor includes a stator having a stator end surface on the second side of the stator. The gear end surface is located on the first side of the stator end surface in the axial direction.

    Abstract: A rotary actuator for a shift-by-wire system of a vehicle includes a motor with a motor shaft, an output shaft disposed in parallel with the motor shaft, a speed-reducing mechanism configured to reduce a rotational speed of the motor and transmit the rotation of the motor to the output shaft, and a case housing the motor and the speed-reducing mechanism. The speed-reducing mechanism includes a first speed-reducing portion including a ring gear and a sun gear, and a second speed reducing portion including a drive gear and a driven gear. The drive gear and the driven gear are coaxially disposed with the motor shaft and the output shaft, respectively, to serve as parallel shafts type gears. The drive gear is disposed between the motor and the first speed-reducing portion in an axial direction of the motor.
