摘要: The present invention discloses methods and apparatus for fostering wireless communication to and from orthopedic implants. Cuff and bandage devices provide a means of supporting a device which coordinates and optimizes communication with orthopedic implants. The devices support methods which can provide feedback to a user to optimize the signal strength and signal to noise aspects of wireless connections to and from orthopedic implants.

摘要: In one example, a sensor is configured to be implanted into a patient's body. The sensor has at least one sensing element, a measurement device in communication with the at least one sensing element, and an internal wireless communicator in communication with the measurement device. The at least one sensing element includes a resistor, and the measurement device includes a capacitor. The measurement device measures a discharge time of the capacitor through the resistor so as to generate a measurement value that is proportional to a value of an anatomical property of the anatomical body, such as strain, that is observed by the sensor. The internal wireless communicator wirelessly communicates the measurement value through skin of the patient to an external wireless communicator situated outside of the patient's body.

The rim has an internal surface, and an external surface opposite the internal surface. The internal surface defines a pocket that can support a sensor therein. In another example, a system comprises the anatomical implant, the sensor, and a cap, where the cap is attached to the rim such that the sensor is hermetically sealed within the pocket.

摘要: An orthopaedic prosthesis assembly includes a first prosthetic component, a second prosthetic component, a retainer, and a fastener and allows the removal of the first prosthetic component without having to remove the second prosthetic component from an intramedullary canal of a patient's bone. The fastener is received in an aperture of the first prosthetic component and the retainer is configured to engage the aperture of the first prosthetic component such that a part of the fastener is secured within the aperture. A rod of the fastener is configured to advance along the longitudinal axis through the first prosthetic component into the second prosthetic component. The end of the rod of the fastener is threaded into a threaded bore defined in the second prosthetic component.

摘要: Feature-based joint range of motion (ROM) capture systems and methods can provide increased quality and quantity of data to assess joint ROM without requiring a patient to seek professional assistance or equipment. ROM systems disclosed herein can include a first pattern coupled to a first portion of patient anatomy on a first side of a joint and a second pattern coupled to a second portion of patient anatomy on a second side of the joint opposite the first side. At least one image containing the first and second patterns and the joint can be captured with an image capture device. The first and second patterns can be detected in the at least one image using a feature-based image recognition algorithm. Based on the detected patterns, at least one ROM metric of the associated joint, e.g., a maximum flexion angle, a maximum extension angle, or a range-of-motion, can be calculated.
