IN WHICH R1, AND R2 EITHER SIGNIFY ALKYL GROUPS WITH 1-4 C-ATOMS, OR IN WHICH R1 AND R2 TOGETHER WITH THE CARBON ATOM TO WHICH THEY ARE ATTACHED FORM A CARBOCYCLIC RING, BY OXIDATION OF CORRESPONDING SUBSTITUTED 4-CYANOBUTYRIC ALDEHYDES OF THE GENERAL FORMULA:
