摘要： A system and method for transmitting CDMA call set-up parameters including authentication parameters through an IP-based infrastructure to an authenticating entity. A base station encapsulates, in SIP messages, CDMA data from wireless communication devices, with the headers of the messages indicating the presence of the CDMA-specific data in the message body. The SIP messages are routed through the infrastructure to an IS41 gateway, which strips the CDMA-specific data from the SIP messages and sends the necessary data to the authenticating entity for setting up a CDMA call.

A first communication between a first WCD and a second WCD is established using a first service option. At some point during the first communication, a transition to a second service option, such as an asynchronous data service option, is initiated. At least one of the WCDs provides an identification code to the other WCD using a signaling protocol over the first service option. The first communication is then terminated. A second communication using the second service option is then initiated by one of the WCDs, resulting in a seamless transition to the second service option.

Virtual IP endpoints, such as Base Stations (BTS), not only communicate with the infrastructure using IP and with the telephone using over-the-air protocol, such as Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), but one of the endpoints also selects the best frame over a call received by multiple endpoints, alleviating the need for a Base Station Controller (BSC) in the infrastructure. A handoff assist entity causes frame selection to be transferred to a second BTS in accordance with a handoff algorithm.

The calling party compares the number corresponding to the first state with the number corresponding to the second state. The calling party appends the prefix portion of the number corresponding of the first state with the suffix portion of the number corresponding to the second state, and establishes a new call using the number corresponding to the second state.

A user of the multi-mode wireless communication device enters one or more desired communication modes into the wireless communication device, where an indication of the selected mode(s) are stored in a memory. When a page message is received by the wireless communication device, it is examined to determine if a communication mode of an incoming call associated with the page message matches the indication of the selected communication mode(s) as stored in the memory. If a match is determined, the incoming call is accepted by the wireless communication device. If the communication mode of the incoming call does not match the indication of the selected communication mode(s), the call is rejected by the wireless communication device without interrupting the user or a call already in progress.
