A surface-mountable mm-wave signal source is provided. The surface-mountable mm-wave signal source comprises: a conductive metal base; a mm-wave signal source disposed over an upper portion of the metal base; a first radio frequency transmission line carrying a quasi-TEM signal from the mm-wave signal source, which is disposed over an upper portion of the metal base and proximate the signal source; a first mode transformer at least partially integrated into the upper portion of the metal base to convert the quasi-TEM signal carried by the planar transmission line into a rectangular waveguide mode signal; a waveguide well having upper and lower ends disposed within the base for carrying the rectangular waveguide mode signal from an upper portion of the base to a lower portion of the base; and a second mode transformer at least partially integrated into the lower portion of the base to convert the rectangular waveguide mode signal to a quasi-TEM signal within a second radio frequency transmission line. The mm-wave signal source preferably operates in a frequency range of from 35 to 94 GHz, more preferably a frequency range of 70 to 80 GHz.

Disclosed is a hard disk drive carrier adapted to be housed in a disk drive chassis comprising a drive bay for receiving and holding a hard disk drive; an integrated locking mechanism including a handle for carrying the disk drive carrier and for providing a one-handed locking mechanism for locking and unlocking the disk drive carrier in the disk drive chassis; and an EMI shield fixedly coupled to the drive bay for providing a barrier to electromagnetic interference, the EMI shield covering a portion of the hard disk drive. Also disclosed is a hard disk drive bay including opposing sidewalls for securing a hard disk drive into a chassis comprising a primary locking mechanism, the primary locking mechanism comprising first and second swing arms each pivotally coupled to said drive bay at a first pivot point and pivotally coupled to a handle at a second pivot point; and a secondary locking mechanism disposed on one or both of said opposing sidewalls, the secondary locking mechanism adapted to interface with corresponding locking elements disposed on the hard drive chassis.

A device is disclosed herein for engaging and disengaging electrical connector halves, particularly electrical connector halves mounted on printed assembly boards that are to be electrically connected to a back plane. The device provides a drive train mechanism comprised of a plurality of gears and racks that, when attached, act to reduce the insertion force required to make the electrical connector halves disposed on the printed board assemblies and the back plane. A further aspect of the present invention involves the method of attaching a back plane to at least one stationary printed board assembly by actuation of a drive train.
