摘要: Microstrip transmission of electrical signals between two arrays of signal conductors such as two printed circuit boards is maintained in an electrical connector in which signal contacts are disposed on opposite sides of the central ground bus. Signal contacts are urged inwardly into engagement with a central dielectric wall and a ground bus is similarly urged outwardly into engagement with the same wall to establish the microstrip configuration between each row of terminals in the central ground bus. The receptacle connector includes a right angle bend and signal contacts as well as the ground bus also have a right angle bend. The insulative housing of a right angle connector comprises upper and lower housing members which are snapped into engagement. Resilient arms, forming a part of the connector mounting assembly on the upper housing member, engage the lower housing member to hold it in place.

摘要: A high performance controlled impedance low loss low attenuation cable having the characteristics of a shielded twisted pair cable is disclosed. The cable contains a plurality of pairs of associated conductors located in a single plane to give a low profile flat cable suitable for use in undercarpet wiring installations. The cable comprises a plurality of layers of extruded insulating material with a metal foil shield surrounding only associated pairs of conductors. Insulating material having different dielectric constants is employed in conjunction with the encircling foil shield to give the cable the characteristics of a conventional shielded twisted pair cable.

摘要: A method of manufacturing high performance cable having a low profile configuration is disclosed. The method includes the steps of drawing, through an extrusion press, conductor subassemblies each including spaced, parallel, insulated wire pairs surrounded by an intermediate insulator. Prior to extrusion, conductive EMI shields are formed in-line around the subassemblies. The method also includes the step of extruding an insulating body around spaced, parallel pairs of shielded subassemblies with the wires in a common plane.

摘要: Process for manufacturing flat multi-conductor cable having two cable members and peelable internal lamina utilizes a pair of dies which simultaneously align conductors, laminate internal lamina, and extrude external lamina thereon. Each die has a conductor aligning surface with parallel linear conductor-receiving recesses therein and an adjacent extrusion surface. Conductors and internal lamina are drawn between aligning surfaces of mated dies and then between extrusion surfaces where vinyl is extruded through an aperture in each die to form external lamina. A knife-edged die insert adjacent one side of the aligning and extrusion surfaces provides a V-notch in one edge of the cable to facilitate peeling apart cable members for termination to a two-sided connector.

摘要: A low profile cable capable of undercarpet transmission of electrical signals is disclosed. The body of the cable includes an essentially flat central region and tapered wings extending outwardly from the central region. It is fabricated of a flexible polymer for positioning around curves. The wings may include cut out sections and opposing slits to facilitate bending of the cable around such curves. The transverse section of the body is symmetric about both its central vertical axis and its central horizontal axis.
