    摘要: Carrier particles comprise a core and a polymer coating that comprises a mixture of polymethyl methacrlyate (PMMA) and melamine. The coating compositions comprise from about 60 to about 80 percent by weight of PMMA and from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight of melamine. The carriers may be combined with a toner to provide a developer suitable for use in an electrostatographic process. Carriers comprising the PMMA/melamine coatings exhibit increased triboelectric charging, a more conductive carrier, and also contribute to reducing toner cohesion.

    摘要: A process for controlling A.sub.t transience comprising: providing in a developer housing, a two component developer composition comprising toner particles comprised of a resin, a pigment, a mixture of at least two charge additives, and unpreconditioned coated carrier core particles, wherein the developer is prepared by combining and thereafter blending a mixture of from 1 to about 10 parts by weight of toner particles with from about 100 parts by weight of carrier particles for about 10 minutes to about 30 minutes until an A.sub.t value of from about 60 to about 100 is attained; and forming and thereafter developing electrostatographic latent images on a photoconductive member in a two component development electrostatographic imaging apparatus with the developer composition; wherein the developer composition has an A.sub.t transient of less than about 20 relative units.

    摘要: Small amounts of a latent solvent are added during the initial powder impaction of the powder coating process of toner carrier particles so as to avoid excessive heating. The temperature of the mixture is raised until the solvent softens the polymer, thereby making the coating uniform. Solvent is later removed to obtain the dry coated carrier. The process is especially useful when using coating materials which have a thermal processing narrow temperature range.

    摘要: A carrier for a developer composition includes a steel core having a shape factor of 6 or more coated with a coating at a coating weight of from 0.1 to 3.0% by weight of a total core weight. The coating is most preferably polymethyl methacrylate. The steel core also preferably has an average particle diameter of 70 to 89 micrometers and a size distribution wherein 1.5% or less of a total number of carrier particles have a size less than 38 micrometers. The carrier is preferably used in conjunction with toner particles to form a developer for particular use in devices utilizing hybrid scavengeless development. Use of a carrier in such a developer in a hybrid scavengeless development apparatus enables images to be achieved with properties similar to that achieved in offset lithography.
