摘要: A first snapshot of a primary disk of a virtual machine (VM) is requested at a beginning of a current backup cycle. A first indication that the first snapshot has been created includes a first listing of changed blocks since a last snapshot was requested. The first snapshot is deleted. Blocks listed in the first listing are copied while the first snapshot is absent. After the copying, a second snapshot is requested. A second indication that the second snapshot has been created includes a second listing of changed blocks since the first snapshot. Blocks listed in both the first and second listings are copied while the second snapshot is present.

摘要: Systems and methods for adding backups to de-duplicated storage and for removing backups from de-duplicated storage are disclosed. 摘要: Systems and methods for backing up data are disclosed. Changes made to a file system are tracked in a change log. When a backup operation is initiated, the changes identified in the change log are applied to the backup save sets. When a file associated with an event in the change log cannot be identified, the file is identified using the inode or other identifier. The event in the change log is then applied once the file is identified. The backup so achieved has eventual name space consistency and can be achieved without taking a snapshot of the file system.

A system determines that a first backup file is created for a first data object, determines that the first data object is based on a second data object, and de-duplicates the first backup file based on a second backup file that was created for the second data object. The system determines that a third backup file is created for a third data object, determines that the third data object is based on the second data object, and de-duplicates the third backup file based on the second backup file that was created for the second data object.

摘要: A method includes identifying a state of an application and taking a snapshot of application data. The method continues to generate a virtual filter input/output snapshot from I/O filter records for the snapshot. The filer records are generated by a filter driver that intercepts I/Os between the application and disks that store application data. The method further includes releasing the snapshot, resuming the application and performing a backup using the virtual filter I/O snapshot. Finally, the method triggers the filter driver to replace multiple filter driver records corresponding to the virtual filter I/O snapshot with data indicating the application data was backed up using the virtual filter I/O snapshot.

摘要: Embodiments are described for dynamically modifying backup policy of an application using changes in metrics of a data set generated by the application and/or user-specified rules. Each application can have its own backup policy having a protection level that determines a frequency of backup for the application data set. An application can have an initial backup policy. An application backup policy can be based on the application type, a percent of change to the data set since the last backup, a size of the data set, or other metric. A user can specify a rule for the backup policy and protection level for the application. The backup policy or protection level can be dynamically updated in response to changes in the data set or a user-specified rule, on a per-application basis.

摘要: Targeted chunking of data is described. A system identifies a length of a sliding window that a data chunking routine applies to a data buffer to create data chunks. The system identifies an expected chunk boundary in the data buffer. The system adjusts the expected chunk boundary, based on the length of the sliding window. The system enables the data chunking routine to start applying the sliding window at the adjusted expected chunk boundary in the data buffer instead of starting application of the sliding window at a beginning of the data buffer.
