Abstract: A method and apparatus for loading and tying down motor vehicles onto a transporting railway car. Chains are fastened to the frame of the motor vehicle and two rigid members that are guided in a track. As the vehicles are moved along a loading ramp toward the railway car, the distance between the ends of the chains, in a vertical direction, is increased to tensioning the chains and tie down the vehicles.
