摘要: An apparatus for reducing the vinyl chloride monomer content of polyvinyl chloride resins suspended as a slurry in an aqueous medium. The polyvinyl chloride-water slurry as produced in a conventional suspension resin autoclave, or a resin-water slurry prepared subsequent to suspension polymerization, is placed in a vessel and heated to a suitable temperature for removal of vinyl chloride monomer from the resin. In this operation, the polyvinyl chloride-water slurry is agitated in a vessel and steam is injected directly into the slurry to rapidly heat the slurry up to a minimum temperature of at least about 180.degree. F. The slurry is cooled immediately, or optionally it can be maintained for a period of time at the selected maximum temperature and then rapidly cooled by applying vacuum to the vessel and condensing the vapor phase removed from the vessel. Dried polyvinyl chloride resin produced by this process has been found to have a vinyl chloride monomer content below a detectable limit of 0.5 ppm.

摘要: A method for reducing the vinyl chloride monomer content of polyvinyl chloride resins. The polyvinyl chloride-water slurry is placed in a vessel, and heat is applied to the vessel for a sufficient time to raise it to a suitable temperature for removal of vinyl chloride monomer from the resin. The resin slurry is agitated and also subjected to a vacuum to reduce the temperature during the heat stripping step. In a preferred method, the polvinyl chloride-water slurry is agitated in a closed vessel, heat is applied to rapidly heat the slurry to a temperature of at least about 50.degree. C, and vacuum is applied to the vessel. The slurry is then rapidly cooled by suitable means. The slurry is then dewatered and dried. Dried polyvinyl chloride resins produced by this process have been found to have a vinyl chloride monomer content below a detectable limit of about 2.0 ppm.

摘要: Flame retarded thermoplastic compositions which comprise in intimate admixture: (a) a polyethylene terephthalate, (b) a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an alpha,beta-unsaturated cyclic anhydride, said copolymer being a rubber-modified graft copolymer or a rubber-free copolymer, (c) a bis-imide flame retardant having at least 8 halogen atoms in the molecule bonded to carbon atoms of aromatic ring systems, (d) optionally, an inorganic synergist for said flame retardant. The compositions preferably contain an impact modifier as well.

摘要: Blends of (a) a vinyl chloride polymer having a relative viscosity as measured at a concentration of 1 gram per 100 grams of cyclohexanone at 25.degree. C. falling within the range of about 1.50 to about 1.85; (b) a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride in which the relative proportions of said compound and said anhydride fall within the range of about 91 to about 70 weight percent of said compound and about 9 to about 30 weight percent of said anhydride; and (c) a tin-containing stabilizer and an impact modifier for vinyl chloride polymers. These blends contain 60 to 40 weight percent of (a) and 40 to 60 weight percent of (b) and have an Izod impact strength (ASTM D 256, Method A) of at least 0.5 foot pound per inch; a heat deflection temperature (ASTM D 648) at 66 psi of at least 75.degree. C.; and a dynamic thermal stability of at least 10 minutes.

These compositions display desirable properties, particularly elevated heat deflection temperatures and good surface appearance.Also disclosed is a process for producing articles by injection molding the compositions at a hold pressure of about 5,000 to about 10,000 psi.
