Abstract:
The present invention relates to an aqueous radiation curable ink composition. The ink composition comprises: (a) an aqueous dispersion comprising anionic acrylated polyurethane and non-volatile cations; (b) at least one non-ionic or anionic surfactant; (c) at least one humectant selected from the group consisting of: polyol, polyether, polyether alcohol, polyether polyols, urea, and amide; and (d) water. The ink composition does not contain a water-soluble or water-miscible (meth)acrylate monomer. The ink composition is redispersible in water after drying and before curing, and the ink composition is water-resistant after curing by electron beam or actinic radiation.
Abstract:
A multi-phase system for creating a metallic effect on a substrate, including applying to the substrate a first ink jet ink having a dispersion of reflective metallic particles in a suitable carrier system, to form a reflective coating layer; and applying a second ink jet ink over the reflective coating layer to form a protective coating layer. Optionally, an undercoat layer is printed on the substrate prior to applying the first ink jet ink. The second ink jet includes at least one crosslinkable polymer or is otherwise energy curable. The second ink jet ink optionally imparts a color to the metallic image.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to low odor radiation curable ink compositions. The composition comprises 10-40% w/w of 4-hydrobutylacrylate, 5-25% of a urethane (math)acrylate oligomer, 10-55% of diacrylates, one or more photoinitiators, one or more additives, and one or more pigments. The composition excludes many monofunctional monomers that have distinct odor and are commonly used in an ink jet composition.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method for single pass printing on an absorbent non-white substrate. The method comprises: (a) applying a primer composition to one or more selected surfaces of an absorbent non-white substrate to form a primer layer to seal the selected surfaces of the substrate, (b) drying the primer layer, (c) printing a white ink on the primer layer, and (d) drying or curing the white ink. The present invention also relates to low odor radiation curable white ink compositions. The composition comprises 10-40% w/w of 4-hydrobutylacrylate, 0.5-10% of a urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer, 10-55% of diacrylates, one or more photoinitiators, one or more additives, and one or more white pigments. The composition excludes many monofunctional monomers that have distinct odor and are commonly used in an ink jet composition.
