摘要: Transmission of candidate-sector signalling channels are synchronized to facilitate mobile-assisted handoff (MAHO) measurements by a mobile (125). Transmitters in candidate sectors each transmit their signalling channel at distinct frequencies and at predetermined intervals. The transmission of each signalling channel by each candidate sector transmitter is synchronized to provide a known reference to the mobile (125). When instructed, the mobile (125) need only to perform MAHO measurements at the predetermined intervals in the order and at the frequency instructed.

摘要: An electronic system and a method substantially eliminates any delays caused by buffering of a signal containing speech. The electronic system comprises a receiver for receiving signals, a buffer, coupled to the receiver, a buffer controller coupled to the buffer, and an audio section for presenting signals received to a listener. The method comprises the following steps. The receiver receives an input signal representing speech, and produces an output signal representing the input signal after a delay intentionally introduced in the system. The delay corresponds to the length of the buffer. The buffer stores the input signal in the buffer at an input rate, and produces the output signal at an output rate. The buffer controller determines whether the delay or buffer length is greater than a predetermined threshold, and analyzes at least a portion of the input signal stored in the buffer to determine which parts of the input signal may be removed without substantial deterioration of the signal quality according to at least one predetermined criterion, when the buffer length is greater than a predetermined length. The buffer controller then deletes at least some of the parts of the input signal stored in the buffer that comply with the predetermined criterion.

摘要: A method and apparatus for establishing an active set of carriers from a plurality of available carriers for a wireless receiver. The active set of carriers can be determined from the plurality of available carriers for the wireless receiver. An indication of which carriers are in the active set can be sent to the wireless receiver, such as a receiver in a mobile communication device. The receiver or mobile communication device can monitor only those carriers that are listed in the active set of carriers.

摘要: A device and method for trading commodity options and futures related to an educational institution's non-rival athletic program to manage risks associated with producing collegiate athletic programs. In one version, the underlying asset of the options and futures contracts is an athletic prospect's obligation to participate in a non-rival athletic program at a particular institution in exchange for the opportunity for the athletic prospect to participate in academic and athletic programs within the institution. In a particular form, the underlying asset is a signed National Letter of Intent, a contract that obligates a prospect attending a particular institution to participate in that institution's non-rival athletic program. Revenues generated by options and futures contracts traded according to the device and method of the present invention can be used to further the institution's educational and athletic missions.

摘要: A portable communication device (10) is controlled by voice recognition circuitry (20) remote from the portable communication device. The portable communication device includes apparatus for producing and transmitting a parametric representation of voice commands. The remote circuitry (which could possibly be a base station, a mobile repeater, or simply a dedicated box, separate from the portable) produces control signals, responsive to the parametric representation of voice commands, for controlling the portable communication device.

摘要: A communication unit (10) transmits a first signal (12) that has a plurality of holes (44) therein during the occurrence of which another communication unit may interrupt. A repeater (14) receives the first signal and transmits a second signal (16) comprising the information in the first signal, and a plurality of digital coded squelch words synchronized with the holes to indicate the location of at least one of the holes in the first signal (i.e., the time at which at least one of the holes will occur). In one embodiment, each hole occurs after each pair of coded squelch words, and accordingly the pairs of coded squelch words are marked to indicate the times of occurrence of holes in the first signal.

摘要: A vehicle mounted mobile transceiver (11) communicates via a secondary mobile unit (51) with a short range portable unit (10). The portable unit (10) can be either a cordless microphone or a transceiver. The portable unit (10) allows a remotely positioned operator to transmit messages to a base station (13). To ensure security and reliable operation, the portable and vehicle mounted units use digitized codes for ID and instruction purposes. These codes are newly generated from time to time by the vehicle mounted unit and are imparted to the portable unit via a battery charging interface by modulating the battery charging signal with the reset and digital data signals. An improved remote squelch detect is also provided.

摘要: The PDCAB packet (300) and the RRA packet (308) are transmitted together on the F-SCCH. For example, 9 RRA bits (305) are appended to the PDCAB field (303), in place of the pad bits (205), thereby allowing both the PDCAB (303) and RRA (311) messages to be protected against errors by a 16-bit CRC (307). In accordance with the embodiments, a receiver is able to distinguish between the varying PDCAB (303) and RRA (305) message formats and transmitting the packets (300) and (308) together is a normal mode of operation in the embodiments. Therefore, in accordance with the embodiments, when the PDCAB packet (300) and RRA packet (308) are transmitted together, the network replaces the N PDCAB pad bits, such as pad bits (205), with the first N bits from the RRA bitmap (311), in order to use the nominal CRC length for both packets (300) and (308).
