摘要: A flowmeter having no moving parts, and including a conduit forming a passage for the fluid to be measured, and an obstacle assembly mounted therein. The assembly is constituted by a contoured block disposed across the conduit, the longitudinal axis of the block being perpendicular to the flow axis of the conduit, and a strip mounted across the conduit behind the block in parallel relation thereto to define a gap which serves to trap Karman vortices created by the presence of the assembly in the flow path. The vortices are sensed to produce a signal whose periodicity is proportional to flow rate.

摘要: A vortex shedding flowmeter in which an obstacle is mounted within a flow conduit to produce periodic vortices whose frequency is a function of the flow rate of the fluid passing through the conduit. The conduit is interposed between an upstream and a downstream pipe section in the line conveying the fluid to be metered. To render the flowmeter insensitive to differences in velocity distribution in the fluid entering the flow conduit, the internal diameter of the conduit is made smaller than that of the upstream pipe section to create a constriction in the flow passage which renders the flow distribution profile more uniform and thereby improves the accuracy and reliability of the meter.

摘要: A signal recovery system coupled to the sensor of a vortex-type flowmeter wherein fluidic variations are induced whose frequency is a function of the flow rate of the fluid. The sensor yields an electrical signal containing a fundamental frequency proportional to the fluidic variations as well as frequency components or noise arising from turbulence in the fluid admitted into the flowmeter. The recovery system includes a voltage-controlled band-pass filter coupled to the sensor to transmit only those frequencies which lie within a narrow range whose center frequency is determined by the applied control voltage and to discriminate against all other frequencies. In order to recover the fundamental frequency from the sensor output and to reject frequencies reflecting hydraulic noise, a control voltage is generated whose level is a function of the existing velocity of the fluid passing through the meter, the control voltage being applied to the filter to adjust the band-pass setting thereof so that the center frequency substantially corresponds to the fundamental frequency in the sensor output. The output of the filter is applied to a Schmitt trigger to provide a square wave whose frequency corresponds to the fundamental frequency, the output of the trigger being indicated to afford a reading of flow rate.

THE METER INCLUDES A FLOW TUBE WHOSE INLET SECTION HAS A SET OF FIXED SWIRL BLADE THEREIN WHICH IMPART A SWIRLING MOTION TO INCOMING FLUID, THE SWIRLING FLOW BEING CAUSED TO PRECESS IN AN ENLARGING SECTION OF THE TUBE. THE PRESESSIONAL MOTION IS DETECTED TO PRODUCE VOLAGE PULSES WHOSE FREQUENCY DEPENDS ON FLOW RATE. TO MAINTAIN THE DESIRED LINEAR RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FLOW RATE AND FREQUENCY, THE GEOMETRY OF THE SWIRL BLADES AND THE INLET SECTION ASSOCIATED THEREWITH IS MADE SUCH AS TO ACCELARATE FLOW THERETHROUGH TO MINIMIZE BOUNDARY-LAYER SEPARATION ALONG THE SURFACE OF THE BLADES.
