Abstract: In a bucket elevator a cleaning lip is attached to a few buckets of the bucket and chain line to protrude beyond the normal outer edge of the bucket to remove material in the bottom part of the elevator casing. The material is conveyed to the head of the elevator and combined with the normally elevated material in the discharge chute or otherwise conveyed out of the elevator casing to prevent the buildup of spilled material at the bottom which might interfere with and cause damage to the bucket and chain line or the drive.
