    Abstract: A laminate comprising a transparent support and, as formed on the transparent support, a patterned alignment control layer containing a first alignment control region and a second alignment control region each having an alignment control surface, in which the two regions differ from each other in point of the composition thereof and in point of the alignment-controlling capability thereof, in which the individual alignment control surfaces are alternately positioned in the patterned alignment control layer, and in which the alignment control surfaces of the first alignment control region and the second alignment control region can control liquid crystals in such a manner that the long axes of the aligned liquid crystals could be vertical to each other in the plane parallel to the alignment control surfaces.
