The method also includes directing a second beam to the polarization sensitive recording medium to interfere with the first beam to generate a polarization interference pattern, to which the polarization sensitive recording medium is exposed. One of the first beam and the second beam has a planar wavefront and the other has a non-planar wavefront. A first propagation direction of the first beam and a second propagation of the second beam are non-parallel.

Further, the NED includes an eye tracking module and multiple optical elements that are combined to form an optical system to allow for changes in position of one or both eyes of a user of the NED. Various types of such optical elements, which may have optical states that are switchable, may be used to steer a light beam toward the user's eye. A direction of the steering may be based on eye tracking information measured by the eye tracking module.

An azimuthal angle changing rate of the optic axis is configured to increase from the lens pattern center to the opposite lens peripheries in at least a portion of the lens including the lens pattern center. The lens pattern center is shifted from a geometry center of the lens by a predetermined distance in a predetermined direction.

摘要: A near eye display (NED) includes multiple PBP optical elements combined with one or more C-plates to improve optical angular performance. The PBP optical elements may be configured for beam steering or for focusing light to a point. A C-plate may reduce or eliminate an undesirable polarization phase shift introduced by the PBP optical elements to angular, off-axis light. Birefringence of the PBP optical elements produces such a polarization phase shift. A C-plate provides an additional polarization phase shift that is opposite to the extra polarization phase shift by the PBP optical elements. Thus, the additional polarization phase shift by the C-plate at least partially reduces the phase shift by the PBP element.

The light redirecting or absorbing structure is configured to absorb or redirect incident light from a first angular range towards an edge of the waveguide display, without altering incident light from other angular ranges.
