    摘要: A field sequential dichroic light valve using ferro-electric liquid crystal components and multi-layer thin film broadband polarizing beam-splitting devices as an optical switch. The field sequential dichroic light valve has a fast time response and a memory function, as well as a switch frequency larger than 180 Hz and an optical transmittance larger than 90%. Accordingly, the field sequential dichroic light valve can effectively switch R, G, B-colored light beams in time sequence, and can be applied to a full-color projection display system.

The field sequential color projection system comprises: a field sequential beam splitting/combining light valve module including three light valves, which can be controlled by applied energy field, for outputting polarized light of three primary colors in time sequence; a frame sequential display module for respectively displaying frames of three primary colors corresponding to the polarized light of three primary colors output in time sequence, wherein the polarized light passes through the frame sequential display module; a projection lens module for projecting the polarized light passing through the frame sequential display module onto a screen to produce a full color image.

    摘要: A thin-film color-selective beam splitter and the method of fabricating the same are disclosed. The method includes the steps of: (i) forming a main prism by a pre-selected material, and deciding a first base angle and a second base angle according to the substance and coating characteristics of the pre-selected material; (ii) coating a first multilayer film and a second multilayer film on two slopes of the main prism, in which tilt angles for coating the first multilayer film and the second multilayer film and tilt angles of light entering and emerging the main prism are different, so that spectra of the first multilayer film and the second multilayer film are different, and the first multilayer film can be a red reflective film and the second multilayer film can be a blue reflective film; and (iii) using the pre-selected material to form interface prisms, and adhering the interface prisms to the main prism, so that light can perpendicularly enter and emerge from surfaces of the prism. Moreover, the method may include a further step of: coating a filtering film on an emerging interface of the main prism for green light. A thin-film color-selective beam splitter can be formed by the above method with a single coating process and can serve as a tri-color beam splitter.

    摘要: A high-efficiency polarized illuminating system for a liquid crystal projector is disclosed. The illuminating system is easy to fabricate and set up, with a low cost since, unlike in the prior art, no particular component is needed in the illuminating system and the components used in the system does not require a highly precise alignment. The illuminating system comprises: A light source device for providing a light beam; a polarizing beam-splitting device for converting the light beam into a p-polarized light beam and an s-polarized light beam; a first lens plate for converging the p-polarized light beam and the s-polarized light beam into a plurality of light spots; a polarization rotating device for optionally passing the plurality of light spots formed by the p-polarized light beam or the s-polarized light beam to output the plurality of light spots with a certain polarization; and a second lens plate for projecting the plurality of light spots to form a plurality of light beams having the certain polarization, in which the plurality of light beams are overlapped on a converging lens to form a polarized light beam that is converged on a liquid crystal panel.

    摘要: A high efficiency liquid crystal display projection system is provided, which can effectively use the energy of s-polarized light and p-polarized light emitted from the light source. The high efficiency liquid crystal display projection system can simplify the structure of light splitting/combining prism by using the feature that the effective optical aperture of a reflective liquid crystal light valve is larger than 85%. Using a broadband polarizing beam-splitting prism to combine/split light, the volume of the liquid crystal display projection system is significantly reduced. The high efficiency liquid crystal display projection system comprises: a dichroic module for sequentially separating a white light into three primary-color lights; a broadband polarizing beam-splitting device for respectively transmitting and reflecting p-polarized light and s-polarized light of the three primary-color lights; two fast time response liquid crystal light valves for receiving and reflecting respectively the p-polarized light and the s-polarized light of the three primary-color lights so that the p-polarized light is converted to s-polarized light and the s-polarized light is converted to p-polarized light; and projection lenses for projecting the light beam to a screen after the s-polarized light and the p-polarized light reflected by the liquid crystal valves are respectively reflected and transmitted by the broadband polarizing beam-splitting device.

    摘要: A color separation beam splitter for projectors is provided, which comprises a plurality of prisms connected with each other and three optical interference filters having different wavelength ranges respectively formed on side surfaces of the plurality of prisms. The three optical interference filters include a yellow color reflective dichroic mirror, a red color reflective dichroic mirror, and a blue color reflective dichroic mirror to filter out the yellow light and provide three primary color lights with high color purity. Moreover, by reflecting a light beam twice, the number of layers of dichroic mirror can be reduced. The color purity of the light is increased after reflected twice by the dichroic mirrors. Moreover, configuration of a liquid crystal projector by use of this prism assembly as color separation unit is also disclosed.

    摘要: A hard and durable single-layer or multilayer artireflection coating for use with a high refractive-index IR transparent substrate is provided. The coating is prepared by concurrent deposition of TiO.sub.2 and MgF.sub.2 with the reactive ion-assistance on the IR transparent substrate within a single vacuum chamber. The refractive-index of this film is adjustable by varying the relative deposition rate of the two materials (i.e. controlling the ratio of the materials) to optimize the transmittance of the incident IR irradiation. The opitical thickness of each film of the single-layer and multilayer antireflection coatings is one-quarter wavelength of the IR irradiation.
