    摘要: An electromechanically actuated valve (12) for use as an intake or exhaust valve in an internal combustion engine. The valve (12) is actuated by a electromechanical actuator assembly (18) which includes a first electromagnet (22), second electromagnet (30) and third electromagnet (32). A first disk (38) is fixedly mounted to the valve (12) in a gap between the first and second electromagnets, and a second disk (44) is slidably mounted to the valve (12) above the third electromagnet (32) with a stop member (40) limiting its travel toward the first disk (38). With the valve (12) being in a closed position, the gap between the first disk (38) and the first electromagnet (22) is greater than the gap between the second disk (44) and third electromagnet (32), allowing for multiple valve lifts. A first spring (48), mounted between the cylinder head (14) and first disk (38), and a second spring (50), mounted between the second disk (44) and an actuator housing (20), create an oscillatory system which drives most of the valve movement during engine operation, thus reducing power requirements to actuate the valves while increasing the responsiveness of the valves.

    摘要: An electromechanically actuated valve (12) for use as an intake or exhaust valve in an internal combustion engine. The valve (12) is actuated by a electromechanical actuator assembly (18) which includes a first electromagnet (22), second electromagnet (30) and third electromagnet (32). A first disk (38) is slidably mounted to the valve (12) in a gap between the first and second electromagnets with first and second stop members (39, 41) limiting its travel along the valve stem (15). A third spring (52) biases the first disk (38) toward the first stop (39). The gap between the first and second stops (39, 41) is large enough to allow for manufacturing tolerances and temperature changes, with a third spring (52) acting to create soft landings. A second disk (44) is slidably mounted to the valve (12) above the third electromagnet (32) with a third stop member (40) limiting its travel toward the first disk (38). With the valve (12) being in a closed position, the gap between the first disk (38) and the first electromagnet (22) is greater than the gap between the second disk (44) and third electromagnet (32), allowing for multiple valve lifts. A first spring (48), mounted between the cylinder head (14) and first disk (38), and a second spring (50), mounted between the second disk (44) and an actuator housing (20), create an oscillatory system which drives the valve movement during engine operation, thus reducing power requirements to actuate the valves.

    摘要: A method and system for maximizing the output of an alternator in an automotive vehicle. An alternator is provided having a first rectifier connectable to a first output of the alternator to form a first winding configuration and a second rectifier connectable to a second output of the alternator to form a second winding configuration. Based on the speed of the alternator, a controller operatively couples one of the first and second rectifiers to the first and second outputs, respectively, so as to maximize output current of the alternator. If the speed of the alternator is below a predetermined speed range, the controller couples the first output of the alternator to the first rectifier. Alternatively, if the speed of the alternator is above the predetermined speed range, the controller couples the second output of the alternator to the second rectifier.

    摘要: A method and system for increasing the output of an alternator for an automotive vehicle has a first three-phase winding (18) and a second three-phase winding (20) that are coupled to a respective first rectifier circuit (26) and a second rectifier circuit (28). A switch circuit (30) is located between the first rectifier circuit (26) and the second rectifier circuit (28). A controller (32) that is coupled to a speed sensor (34) and provides a signal indicative of the speed of the alternator, controls the operation of the switch circuit (30). When the speed sensor (34) indicates that the speed of the alternator is below a predetermined threshold, the first rectifier circuit (26) and second rectifier circuit (28) are coupled together through switch circuit (30). When the speed sensor (34) indicates that the speed of the alternator is above a predetermined speed, the switch circuit (32) is controlled to an open state so that two parallel half-wave rectifier circuits are formed.

    摘要: A micro-electro-mechanical (MEMs) mirror device for use in an optical switch is disclosed. A “piano”-style MEMs device includes an elongated platform pivotally mounted proximate the middle thereof by a torsional hinge. The middle portion of the platform and the torsional hinge have a combined width less than the width of the rest of the platform, whereby several of these “piano” MEMs devices can be positioned adjacent each other pivotally mounted about the same axis with only a relatively small air gap therebetween. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention electrostatic charges, which build up on exposed dielectric surfaces causing the mirror's angular position to drift over time, are minimized by positioning the hot and ground electrodes at different levels separated by a vertical surface, and placing the dielectric material on the vertical surface.
