    摘要: A hybrid electric vehicle contains a powerplant for propelling the vehicle. The powerplant comprises a combustion engine (6) and a dynamoelectric machine (8). A control system (10) issues a wheel torque command corresponding to torque desired at road-engaging wheels, and includes an engine controller (16) for issuing an engine torque command and a dynamoelectric machine controller (18) for issuing a dynamoelectric machine torque command. Controller (18) contains one or more maps and/or profiles defining functional relationship of torque to engine crankshaft speed and/or position over a range of crankshaft speeds and/or positions. The maps and/or profiles are used to develop make-up torque that is delivered by the dynamoelectric machine to accomplish certain smoothing functions. Transmission gear shifts can be smoothed by using the dynamoelectric machine controller to slew the engine to a new target speed appropriate to the new gear. A dedicated, high-speed data communication link supplies crankshaft speed and position information from an engine-mounted sensor directly to controller (18).

    摘要: A device and method of commutation control for an isolated boost converter provides a unique commutation logic to limit voltage spikes by utilizing switches on the secondary side to minimize a mismatch between current in the inductor and current in the leakage inductance of the transformer when commutation takes places. To minimize this mismatch, the current in the leakage inductance is preset at a certain level that approaches the current in the inductor prior to the commutation, thus significantly reducing the power rating for a clamp circuit and enabling use of a simple passive clamp circuit. In addition, through unique timing of the turn-on of the secondary switches, soft switching conditions are created that eliminate turn-on losses and the reverse recovery problems of free-wheeling diodes.

    摘要: An electromechanically actuated valve (12) for use as an intake or exhaust valve in an internal combustion engine. The valve (12) is actuated by a electromechanical actuator assembly (18) which includes a first electromagnet (22), second electromagnet (30) and third electromagnet (32). A first disk (38) is fixedly mounted to the valve (12) in a gap between the first and second electromagnets, and a second disk (44) is slidably mounted to the valve (12) above the third electromagnet (32) with a stop member (40) limiting its travel toward the first disk (38). With the valve (12) being in a closed position, the gap between the first disk (38) and the first electromagnet (22) is greater than the gap between the second disk (44) and third electromagnet (32), allowing for multiple valve lifts. A first spring (48), mounted between the cylinder head (14) and first disk (38), and a second spring (50), mounted between the second disk (44) and an actuator housing (20), create an oscillatory system which drives most of the valve movement during engine operation, thus reducing power requirements to actuate the valves while increasing the responsiveness of the valves.

    摘要: In one embodiment of the present invention, a control method for an induction motor includes calculating a desired quadrature-axis voltage and a desired direct-axis voltage according to both current control and voltage control. Below a predetermined motor speed, the motor is controlled in accordance with current control only. Above that predetermined speed, the two desired quadrature-axis voltages are combined in relative proportions, with the influence of voltage control being greater with higher motor speed. The two desired direct-axis voltages are likewise combined. The influence of voltage control thus increases with increasing motor speed. Above a second motor speed threshold, the motor is controlled in accordance with voltage control only.

    摘要: An integrated power module combining drivers and power devices includes a diagnosis module integrated with or connected to the integrated power module. That includes protectors. The protectors provides protection against power device failure, transistor stack failure, gate drive failure, power failure, and other conditions. In a first level of diagnosis and protection, a gate driver is responsive to hard faults, such as short circuit and under voltage conditions, to disenable the power devices, for example, switching transistors of an inverter. In addition, the first level of protection includes soft faults, such as detection of overcurrent and over temperature in the power device, conditions that are merely reported to the controller, whereby the number and frequency of the events can be monitored. The second level of protection also provided by the diagnostic module may include power interlock to ensure that full power is being delivered to the integrated power module. The system permits detection of a transistor stack failure by monitoring the thermal resistance of the stack layers or junctions to detect physical degradation of the junctions and determine when the level of deterioration exceeds a pre-determined level. In addition, a power cycling failure diagnosis determines the integrity of the wirebonds, for example, wirebonds joining a silicon die to appropriate metal land patterns, as well as the integrity of stack junctions.

The arrangement of permanent magnets 34, 134 increases the output power and efficiency of the electrical machine 100 while decreasing magnetic noise.
