    Abstract: The invention relates to a fingerprint sensing system and a method of the fingerprint sensing system of enabling authentication of a user based on fingerprint data captured by a fingerprint sensor of the fingerprint sensing system. The method comprises capturing at least one image of a fingerprint of a user's finger contacting the fingerprint sensor, acquiring a stored image comprising impairment data caused by impairments that the fingerprint sensor is subjected to, extracting fingerprint feature data from the captured at least one image, extracting impairment feature data from the acquired image, and comparing at least a subset of the extracted fingerprint feature data to at least a subset of the extracted impairment feature data of the acquired image, and if there is a match the user is not authenticated.

    Abstract: A method for providing user input on an electronic device comprising a fingerprint sensor comprising an array of sensing elements. Acquiring partial fingerprint images of a finger touching a finger touch surface of the fingerprint sensor from at least two sub-groups of sensing element. Determining a respective force value indicative of a force applied on the finger touch surface at each of the sub-groups of sensing elements when the partial fingerprints were acquired, based on the partial fingerprint images acquired from the respective sub-group of sensing elements. Determining a force value difference between a pair of the determined force values. Determining a user input based on the determined force value difference, and based on the relative location between the sub-groups of sensing elements in the pair associated with the force value difference.

    Abstract: The method comprises capturing a plurality of images of a single biometric object during a single activation of a biometric sensor and ranking the images based on a ranking metric value of each of the images to determine a highest ranked image and at least one non-highest ranked image. The method comprises comparing, in a first matching attempt for the biometric object, the highest ranked image to templates of a plurality of pre-stored biometric object templates, wherein a matching metric is determined for each compared template, and generating a match indicating signal when it is determined that at least one of the matching metrics exceeds a matching threshold value. When it is determined that none of the matching metrics exceed the matching threshold value, one of the non-highest ranked images is compared, in a further matching attempt, to templates of the plurality of templates based on the matching metrics.
