Abstract: 1,119,024. Air-filter. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 3 March, 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 10080/67. Heading BIT. An air filter for an I.C. engine intake comprises a two-part housing 22, 24, of phenolic resin, zinc or aluminium, having peripheral sealing surfaces 62, 64 and internal support pads 44, 54 which are urged into contact when the housing is mounted on an intake pipe (12) and a wing nut (18), on a stud (14) projecting from pipe (12) and through aperture 40 in housing part 22, is tightened deforming the housing (Figs. 1, 2, not shown). Initially, an annular polyurethane foam filter element (26) is mounted within baffles 46, 60 of the housing, and the housing parts are pressed together and locked by rotatable forks 72, 74 engaging pins 68, 70 on the intake nozzle 56. Lugs 50 engage pins on pipe 12 to locate the housing. Nozzle 56 acts as a silencer.
