Abstract:
In one aspect, a rotor blade for a wind turbine includes a body extending between a root end and a tip end. The body may include a root portion extending from the root end. The root portion may include an inner surface defining an inner circumference. In addition, the rotor blade may include a root stiffener disposed at least partially within the root portion of the body. The root stiffener may include a plurality of arms extending radially from the inner surface and may be configured to extend circumferentially around only a portion of the inner circumference of the root portion.
Abstract:
A rotor blade for a wind turbine includes an internal support structure including a plurality of fixed, spaced support members extending in a chord-wise and span-wise direction and defining a generally aerodynamic contour of the rotor blade. A plurality of the support members have an outer surface with a longitudinally extending slot defined therein. A plurality of fabric strips are attached over the internal support structure in a tensioned state and define an aerodynamic outer skin. The fabric strips extend over and are attached to the support members with a longitudinally extending insert member that presses the fabric strips into the slot and lockingly engages within the slot.
Abstract:
Load control systems and methods for shafts are provided. The load control system includes a sensor assembly. The sensor assembly includes a plurality of ultrasonic probes mounted to the shaft, each of the plurality of ultrasonic sensors configured to produce an ultrasonic wave on the shaft. The sensor assembly further includes a plurality of receivers mounted to the shaft, each of the plurality of receivers configured to sense the ultrasonic wave produced by one of the plurality of ultrasonic probes. The load control system further includes a controller communicatively coupled to the sensor assembly and configured to measure a travel time of the ultrasonic wave produced by each of the plurality of ultrasonic probes.
Abstract:
A rotor blade for a wind turbine may include a body extending between a root end and a tip end. The body may include a root portion extending from the root end. The root portion may include an inner surface defining an inner circumference. The rotor blade may also include a root stiffener disposed within the root portion of the body. The root stiffener may be substantially ring-shaped and may extend around the inner circumference of the root portion. The root stiffener may define a plurality of radially oriented openings configured to receive fasteners for coupling the root stiffener to the root portion.
