Abstract: A computer-related method for estimating turbine hub loads in a windpark comprising a plurality of turbines, the method comprising the steps of: providing a 3D airflow database; providing a turbine loads transfer function; measuring turbine operating data for each turbine; and processing turbine operating data using the 3D airflow database and the turbine loads transfer function. This allows wind turbine loads are indirectly obtained in real time without the need of additional turbine instrumentation thereby reducing the cost of such system.

Abstract: A method is provided for controlling the shutdown of a wind turbine of the type having a rotor, the rotor comprising one or more wind turbine blades. The method comprises dynamically determining a rotor speed reference; obtaining a measure of the rotor speed of the rotor; determining an error between the rotor speed reference and the rotor speed of the rotor; and controlling a pitch of one or more of the wind turbine blades based on the determined error. A corresponding wind turbine controller and a wind turbine including such a controller are also provided.

The method comprises: determining a whirling mode frequency for the wind turbine; measuring an acceleration signal that is indicative of the movement of the nacelle of the wind turbine; determining a frequency spectrum of the measured acceleration signal in the proximity of the determined whirling mode frequency; determining a characteristic value that is representative of the energy content of the measured acceleration signal having the determined frequency spectrum; and performing at least one control action if the characteristic value exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: Method of controlling a wind turbine. A data set is obtained that includes a direction of the wind relative to the wind turbine and a pitch angle parameter representing a pitch angle of at least one of the wind turbine blades. Based on the obtained data sets, a statistical representation of the pitch angle parameter as a function of the relative wind direction is determined, which is then used in estimating a wind direction offset corresponding to the relative wind direction where the pitch angle parameter attains a maximum. The relative wind direction of the wind turbine is then adjusted as a function of the wind direction offset.

Abstract: A method for controlling a wind turbine system including an electrical generator, a power converter system, a DC-link, and at least a grid-side breaker arrangement controllable between open and closed states, wherein the method comprises monitoring for the presence of a shutdown event and, in response to identifying the presence of a shutdown event, controlling the wind turbine into a production-ready state, comprising: i) controlling the grid-side breaker arrangement in the closed state; ii) disabling one or more drive signals to the power converter system; and iii) controlling the DC-link of the power converter system in a charged state. Advantageously, this approach reduces the frequency of use of the grid-side breaker arrangement which extends serviceable life considerably, and also allows the wind turbine system to be transitioned rapidly between an operating state and a production-ready state.

In the pitch-angle increasing step, a first change rate of the pitch angle of the blade in a first period during which the wind turbine generator is in an inclining motion toward an upwind side from a vertical direction due to sway of the floating body, is smaller than a second change rate of the pitch angle of the blade in a second period during which the wind turbine generator is in an inclining motion toward a downwind side from the vertical direction due to the sway of the floating body.

Abstract: Groups of wind turbines at a wind farm are controlled based on detection of volant animal swarms. A risk score is defined for each of a plurality of wind turbine groups of the wind farm at a default risk score based on predetermined data. A respective operational parameter is set for each wind turbine of each of the wind turbine groups based on the respective risk score. The presence of a volant animal swarm is detected in a region associated with a given one of the wind turbine groups via a volant animal detection system. The risk score of the given one wind turbine group and an adjacent wind turbine group is changed from the default risk score to temporary risk scores in response to detection of the volant animal swarm.
