摘要： The invention is applicable to a low friction device for mounting on a ski and permitting low friction sideward movement of a boot supported thereon. Such a device is provided with a base plate that is mounted on the ski and a stepping plate which supports the boot. The device has friction devices, such as a ball and cage structure interposed between said plates to permit low friction sideward movement of the stepping plate with respect to the base plate. A lever is pivotally mounted on the cage at a point intermediate its ends and has one end thereof pivotally engaging the base plate and the other end thereof pivotally engaging the stepping plate. Thus, as the stepping plate is caused to move sidewardly with respect to the base plate the presence of the lever insures that the ball carrying cage will also move sidewardly a predetermined portion of the distance so moved by the stepping plate. Normally such movement of the cage is one-half the movement of the stepping plate with respect to the base plate.

摘要： Safety release ski bindings with slope responsive means for adjusting release tension. Safety release ski bindings are provided which are held in normally closed position by the action of an electromagnet. Slope responsive means are connected in circuit with said electromagnet and a power source to continuously alter the strength of the electromagnet in response to the slope of the ski whereby a lesser force would be required to open the safety binding when the ski is on a relatively gentle slope and a greater force would be required to open same when the ski is on a steeper slope. Various kinds of slope responsive devices are suggested such as an electrically conductive liquid medium capable of shorting out certain wires of a rheostat, a pendulumlike armature for a rheostat which responds to gravity for variable contact with the wires thereof or motor driven gyroscopic means for altering the contact of a rheostat armature with the resistance wires thereof.

摘要： A knob-like element is fixed rigidly to one end of the boot. A pair of spring loaded levers are pivotally mounted onto the ski and arranged for embracing the knob-like element when the boot carrying same is appropriately positioned on the ski. Spring loading of the levers is such as to permit them to separate, which separation permits insertion and removal from a position of embracement thereby of said knob-like element. The levers further define a funnel-shape portion immediately behind the release edges of the levers to facilitate entry between said levers of said knob-like element or to permit separation of said levers by insertion into said funnel-shaped opening of a ski pole.

摘要： Ski binding adapted for emergency release. A ski binding is provided with a pair of mechanical parts which are arranged to separate during release of the binding. A permanent magnet is affixed to one of said parts and an electromagnet is affixed to the other thereof, the electromagnet being energizable either at the will of the skier or by remote control. Same is energized under normal skiing conditions and holds the binding closed with a relatively high level of force which can be overcome under emergency conditions to effect release of the binding. However, if a condition of danger is anticipated, the electromagnet can be de-energized, whereupon the holding force remaining is only that of the permanent magnet and the holding force thereupon is reduced to a lesser level. This, while not opening the bindings, makes it possible for same to open under the impact of a lesser opening force. Control of the electromagnet may be manually in response to a switch controlled by the skier or by remote control, such as impulses received from a transmitter which in turn is responsive to bio-chemical electrical impulses derived from the muscles of the skier.

摘要： A device for facilitating the emergency release of a ski boot from a ski by minimizing friction between the ski boot and the ski. The device broadly consists of a rotatable, normally circular, member rotatably mountable on the ski and arranged to lie between the boot and the ski in the normal position of use. The rotatable member is arranged so that only a portion thereof which is moveable substantially across the ski contacts the boot, said limited contact being effected by any mechanically convenient means including either suitable tilting of the rotatable member or masking the portion not to be contacted by the boot. Antifriction means, as ball or roller bearings, may be used between the rotatable member and either the boot or ski.

摘要： Means for fixing bindings to a ski for permitting free flexing of the ski without adversely effecting the relationship of the bindings to the ski boot. A plate is mounted on the upper side of the ski and there is provided one and only one zone of mounting therebetween. The ski bindings are then mounted on said plate for normal engagement with a ski boot. The plate is sufficiently rigid so that the bindings maintain their normal position with respect to the ski boot in spite of the flexing of the ski. Thus, as the ski flexes, the plate is fixed at one point with respect thereto and other portions thereof are free to slide longitudinally of the ski.

摘要： Means for mounting ski binding components onto a ski in such a manner as to permit flexing of the ski without varying the distance between the ski binding components. A rigid plate is mounted in spaced relation to an upper surface of the ski by means which permit at least one end of such plate to be longitudinally translatable with respect to said ski. Preferably one end of the plate is pivoted to the ski and the other end of the plate connected thereto through a slot and pin arrangement. Thus the shape of the plate remains uneffected by flexing of the ski. The boot engaging components of the ski binding are then mounted on said plate and remain at a constant distance from each other regardless of any flexing which may occur in the ski.

An engaging unit is provided for location in the sole of a ski boot and same cooperates with upstanding means fixedly related to the upper surface of a ski. When the ski boot is parallel with the longitudinal axis of the ski, the holder operates in a normal manner to resist forces tending to urge the ski boot directly upwardly. However, when the ski boot is partially turned with respect to the center line of the ski, then the latching mechanism is moved partway toward its release position and a less total force is required to effect the safety release. Thus, in a twisting or diagonal fall, when the bone of the skier is subjected to both bending and torsional forces, the release takes place at lesser force and the skier''s safety is thereby enhanced.
