    Abstract: A vehicle door trim panel fastening system is presented herein. The system includes a stake joint and mating part. The stake joint extends from at least a portion of a base panel and has a plurality of spacers. The mating part is joined to at least a portion of a door trim panel and has a plurality of protruding lock ribs. Moreover, the mating part is configured to operatively connect to the stake joint such that the mating part is interposed between the proximal end of each of the plurality of spacers and a mushroom head. The mushroom head is also configured to form around the plurality of lock ribs so as to avoid relative movement of the operatively connected mating part.

    Abstract: A self-adjustable lock knob bezel assembly includes a body of a polymeric material. The body includes an elastically flexible umbrella having a cylindrical bore extending through the umbrella. Multiple dynamic interface members are positioned within the cylindrical bore and extend away from an inner perimeter wall defined by the cylindrical bore toward a longitudinal central axis of the body. Multiple flexible finger sets extend outwardly from the body. Multiple elastically deflecting legs are positioned below the finger sets. A vehicle door panel includes an aperture receiving the body. A lock knob is positioned within the cylindrical bore and directly contacts each of the dynamic interface members in each of a raised un-locked position and a lowered locked position.

    Abstract: A self-alignment system for attaching a trim panel to a vehicle door assembly is provided. The system includes a trim panel having an interior surface defining a housing platform, at least one alignment pin extending from the housing platform, and at least one locator pin adjacent the alignment pin. The system further includes an inboard door panel defining a plurality of through-holes configured to receive the alignment and locator pins. The alignment pin includes a rigid base portion extending integrally from the housing platform and a bifurcated resilient tapered portion extending integrally from the rigid base portion to a distal end. The rigid base portion includes an outer annular shell and an inner annular shell concentrically disposed within the outer annular shell. The bifurcated resilient tapered portion includes a first-half tapered portion and a second-half tapered portion defined by a plurality of ribs.

    Abstract: A fastening device for connecting a mountable vehicle component to a hole in a first panel includes a face plate with a first side and a second side. The face plate defines a first plane. The fastening device also includes a cantilevered extension plate including a proximal end and a distal end. The extension plate is connected to the face plate at the proximal end and projects away from the first side of the face plate toward the distal end. The extension plate defines a second plane disposed at an offset angle from the first plane. The fastening device also includes a retention member connected to the face plate and that projects away from the second side of the face plate. The retention member includes a first shoulder configured to engage an edge of the hole to retain the face plate to the first panel.

    Abstract: A composite article has an interior layer comprising a natural fiber and an exterior layer injection molded onto the interior layer. The exterior layer forms an outer surface over the interior layer. A method of forming the composite article includes providing a base layer comprising a natural fiber and providing a first tool and a second tool. The first and second tools are configured to cooperate to form a cavity therebetween. The first tool has an injection molding channel formed therein. The base layer is inserted into the cavity between the first and second tools and pressed into a desired shape. A liquid polymeric material is inserted through the injection molding channel of the first tool and onto a surface of the base layer to form an injection molded layer of the polymeric material on the base layer.
