Abstract: An occupant classification system comprises a capacitive sensor configured to measure capacitance. The capacitive sensor is at least partially arranged between a seat frame and at least one of a seat cover and a seat cushion of a seat. A sensor is configured to measure at least one of weight and pressure on the seat. The sensor is at least partially arranged between a vehicle structure and a component of the seat. A controller is configured to generate an occupant classification based on the measured capacitance and the at least one of the measured weight and the measured pressure on the seat.

Abstract: A system to limit adjustment capabilities of a vehicle seat, the system including: a controller; a camera located in a vehicle configured to record images of a visual content, where the visual content is at least a portion of the vehicle seat; the vehicle seat being capable of being remotely controlled to be adjusted between an upright arrangement and a folded arrangement; a sensor configured to produce an output when a seatbelt tongue is inserted into a corresponding seatbelt buckle; where executable instructions enable the controller to: operate the camera to record images of the visual content; determine whether an object exists in the visual content; determine whether the sensor has produced an output; and when at least one object exists in the visual content or the sensor has produced an output, limit the vehicle seat adjustment capabilities such that the vehicle seat is restricted to the upright arrangement.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting and classifying objects associated with a vehicle are provided. The method includes capturing a first image and a second image of a cabin of a vehicle, dividing the first image and the second image into a plurality of regions, comparing a first region of the first image to a second region of the second image, in response to detecting a difference between the second region and the first region, classifying an object present in the difference between the second region and the first region and labeling the classified object, and providing a notification of the classified object to at least one from among an occupant of the vehicle and an operator of the vehicle.

Abstract: An anchor attachment detection sensor for a vehicle. An anchor associated with a passenger seat includes an attachment loop. The anchor attachment detection sensor also includes a sensor affixed on and fully supported by the attachment loop. The sensor detects an interaction applied to the attachment loop and sensor by a child safety seat connector. A method of detecting the attachment of a child safety seat connector to an anchor in a motor vehicle includes detecting an interaction of the child safety seat connector with an attachment loop of an anchor using a sensor supported by the attachment loop and determining with a microprocessor control system coupled to the sensor if a child safety seat connector has been coupled to the anchor based on the interaction detected by the sensor.

Abstract: A system includes a first webbing payout sensor and a seatbelt wear condition module. The first webbing payout sensor can detect a first webbing payout of a seatbelt associated with a seat of a vehicle. The first webbing payout is a first length of webbing of the seatbelt dispensed from a first retractor of the seatbelt. The seatbelt wear condition module can identify whether the seatbelt is worn correctly based on the first webbing payout. The system may further include a second webbing payout sensor that detects a second webbing payout of the seatbelt associated with the seat. The second webbing payout is a second length of webbing of the seatbelt dispensed from a second retractor of the seatbelt. The seatbelt wear condition module identifies whether the seatbelt is worn correctly based on the first webbing payout and the second webbing payout.
