A method and apparatus for injecting fuel and oxidant into a combustion burner. At an exit plane of a nozzle, fuel is discharged in a generally planar fuel layer which has an upper boundary and a lower boundary. Also at the exit plane, oxidant is preferably discharged in both a top layer along the upper boundary of the fuel layer and a bottom layer along the lower boundary of the fuel layer. In a downstream flow direction, the fuel and oxidant preferably converge in a generally vertical plane and diverge in a generally horizontal plane. The discharged fuel and oxidant form a fishtail or fan-shaped flame configuration. A refractory manifold can be used to further enhance the fishtail or fan-shaped flame configuration.

Blade load path on a gas turbine disk can be diverted to provide a significant disk fatigue life benefit. A plurality of gas turbine blades are attachable to a gas turbine disk, where each of the gas turbine blades includes a blade dovetail engageable in a correspondingly-shaped dovetail slot in the gas turbine disk. In order to reduce gas turbine disk stress, an optimal material removal area is defined according to blade and/or disk geometry to maximize a balance between stress reduction on the gas turbine disk, a useful life of the gas turbine blade, and maintaining or improving the aeromechanical behavior of the gas turbine blade. Removing material from the material removal area effects the maximized balance.

A remotely controllable gaseous fuel burner having a burner body with a fuel inlet, a fuel outlet, and a constricted throat region immediately upstream of the fuel outlet. A concentrically disposed and longitudinally movable fuel conduit is disposed within the burner body forming an annular region between the burner body and the fuel conduit. The fuel conduit having a conduit fuel outlet forms a conduit fuel inlet in a wall of the fuel conduit. The outer surface of the conduit fuel outlet immediately upstream of the conduit fuel outlet is tapered and has an outside diameter larger than the inside diameter of the constricted throat.
