摘要: A fluid seal for use between a stationary member and a rotating member. A rigid member mounted on the stationary member has a peripheral cylindrical portion joined to a peripheral frustoconical portion. A sealing assembly mounted on the rotating member has a supporting case and a radial flange. An elastomeric body is bonded to the flange and has, to one side of the flange, a radially outwardly projecting frustoconical auxiliary lip engaging the peripheral cylindrical portion. A main sealing lip, comprising an annular, flexible, polytetrafluoroethylene planar wafer, is bonded to the body on the other side of the flange from the auxiliary lip. This main lip extends radially outwardly, the wafer normally tending to assume a substantially radial position. One face of the wafer engages and is flexed by the frustoconical portion. The centrifugal force of the rotating member in either direction tends to urge the lips more snugly against the rigid member.

The seal may be stretched over an external flange on a rotatable shaft and recover from the elongation to the designed dimension at which the seal is to operate within the external stationary member. A specially formulated elastomeric composition accommodates elongation during stretching in excess of 300%.

摘要: A unitized grease seal. The seal member has a one-piece metal case having a cylindrical bore-sealing portion and a radial flange, and a molded elastomeric member bonded to the metal case to provide a portion bonded to the radial flange and an outer generally cylindrical portion bonded to the surface of the bore-sealing portion and providing a series of spaced apart inwardly extending retaining portions. The elastomeric member also has two diverging lip portions with a cavity between them, one providing a grease retention lip having small spaced-apart shallow indentations enabling passage of small amounts of grease into the cavity, the other lip portion having a polytetrafluoroethylene insert bonded thereto. A one-piece metal wear sleeve member has a shaft-engaging cylindrical portion engaged by the lips and a radially outwardly extending flange with an axially inturned portion having an outer portion spaced radially inwardly from the outer generally cylindrical portion of the elastomeric member but extending radially outwardly beyond the radially inner extremities of the retaining portions. During assembly, the wear sleeve flange's inturned portion is snapped into the space between the retaining portions and the case's radial flange.

摘要: A unitized oil seal having an annular inner seal case (12) having a J-shaped cross section formed by an inner wall (24) and a first axial flange (28) interconnected by a first radial flange (26). The oil seal also has an annular outer seal case (14) having a J-shaped cross-section formed by an outer wall (40) which is connected to a second axial flange (44) by a second radial flange (42). A primary seal element (16) is secured to the second axial flange (44) and extends to the outwardly facing surface (54) of the inner wall (24). An auxiliary seal element (18) is secured to the first axial flange (28) and extends to the inwardly facing surface (38) of the outer wall (40). In one embodiment, the primary and auxiliary seal elements (16) and (18) may be cammed over radially extending lips (56) and (58) formed on the inner and outer walls (24) and (40). Separation of the inner and outer seal cases (14) and (16) is resisted by radial pressure exerted by the seal elements and the radial lips.
