Abstract: The method serves for operating a system with a foldable element that is provided with a control unit including at least two foldable elements, that are connected each via connecting shafts to related carriages, which are slidably supported in a running rail and of which at least the carriage connected to the front-sided foldable element is provided with a drive motor, the method including the step of executing a learning drive, with which the system with foldable elements is transferred from at least a first into a second position and related information is captured. According to the invention at least at the front-sided carriage data of the acting load and related position data are captured and therefrom status data of the installed system with foldable elements are determined and provided to an operating program, that controls the at least one drive motor depending on to the determined status data.
