Abstract: Improvement of a process for the preparation of unsaturated nitriles from hydrocyanic acid and esters of unsaturated alcohols and carboxylic acids in the gaseous phase in the presence of carrier catalysts containing copper(II) salts, cobalt salts or mixtures of both salts, by additionally passing hydrogen halide, water or oxygen or oxygen containing gases, in admixture or as single components, over the catalyst either simultaneously with the reactants or alternately one after the other.
