Abstract:
Chlorine containing synthetic rubbers are obtained by chlorination of a polyolefin in an aqueous dispersion at a temperature above the agglomeration temperature of the unchlorinated polyolefin, followed by vulcanization (e.g. chemical or by irradiation), optionally in conjunction with partial dechlorination, dehydrochlorination or dehydration. Fillers, plasticizers and other synthetic rubbers also may be present. In examples the vulcanization is effected in the presence of magnesium stearate, magnesia, zinc oxide, sulphur, litharge, antimony pentasulphide and mercaptobenzothiazol.
