Abstract: A unique hermetic seal to join an inner wall of a ring shaped member made of a semi-conductor silicon material and a glass tube which is positioned within and spaced away from the inner wall of the ring uniformally heating the ring and the tube with the assistance of a carbon block which surrounds these parts as a heat transferring agent to change the glass from a brittle to a ductile state and applying the weight of a tapered mandrel against the inner wall of the ductile tube so that the outer wall of the tube will be forced into a fused, hermetic sealed engagement with the material forming the bored out wall portion of the silicon ring.
