    Abstract: A system for overhearing data or voice communications is provided. The system comprises at least one antenna operative to receive messages comprising data messages or voice messages, or both data and voice messages. A radio unit is in communication with the at least one antenna, with the radio unit operative to receive signals corresponding to the messages from the at least one antenna. A processor unit is in communication with the radio unit, with the processor unit operative to process the signals corresponding to the messages. A display unit is in communication with the processor unit, with the display unit operatively enabled in response to the signals corresponding to the messages. The display unit is operative to show the messages in a text format or a graphics format.

    Abstract: A method of processing weather data is described that includes receiving, in a vehicle and from a detection system, reflectivity data sampled for a three-dimensional volume of space. The method further includes generating, based on the reflectivity data, a plurality of two-dimensional representations of the reflectivity data. The method further includes transmitting, by a transmission device to a base receiver, a subset of the plurality of two-dimensional representations, wherein each two-dimensional representation of the subset of the plurality of two-dimensional representations comprises a plurality of data points.

    Abstract: In some examples, a system for transmitting a location of an ownship vehicle is configured to be mounted on the ownship vehicle and includes a positioning system configured to receive positioning signals. In some examples, the system also includes a cellular transceiver, a surveillance transceiver, and processing circuitry configured to determine a position of the ownship vehicle based on the positioning signals. In some examples, the processing circuitry is further configured to determine that the ownship vehicle is located in an identified risk volume based on the position of the ownship vehicle and to cause the surveillance transceiver and the cellular transceiver to simultaneously transmit surveillance signals and cellular signals indicating the position of the ownship vehicle in response to determining that the ownship vehicle is located in the identified risk volume.

    Abstract: A method for providing access to the internet on a vehicle, the method comprising: receiving a request from a user device to access a first internet site; checking a vehicle cache server for the first internet site, wherein the vehicle cache server includes a restricted cache and an unrestricted cache, wherein the restricted cache is limited to identified user devices; when data from the first internet site is found in the vehicle cache server, providing the data to the user device; when the data from the first internet site is not found in the vehicle cache server: sending a request to a data pipe coupled to the vehicle for the data from the first internet site; receiving the data from the data pipe; storing the data received from the data pipe on the vehicle cache server; and providing the data to the user device.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining diversion airports for landing an aircraft in adverse conditions. A communication device is configured to facilitate the transmission and display of flight information. A ground based monitoring server (GBMS) communicates with the aircraft over a wireless communication channel. The GBMS has a diversion landing prediction assistance system (DLPAS) that communicates with and queries an aircraft flight parameter database, an airport parameter database, and an airport weather database. The DLPAS monitors parameters from the databases, determines a destination probability of the aircraft to land at the destination airport based on the monitored parameters, and, when the destination probability for a successful landing is less than a predetermined destination threshold, selects a diversion airport to land the aircraft. The GBMS transmits the selected diversion airport to the aircraft.

    Abstract: A method for processing weather data, where the method includes receiving, at a vehicle and from a base station, a request for weather data, wherein the request comprises an indication of a specified location in space for the weather data. The method further includes determining two or more parameters, wherein a first parameter of the two or more parameters comprises a distance between the vehicle and the specified location in space. The method further includes calculating a confidence level based on the two or more parameters, wherein the confidence level indicates an estimated accuracy for the weather data obtained from the vehicle. The method further includes determining whether the confidence level exceeds a threshold level and determining whether to transmit the weather data to the base station based on whether the confidence level exceeds the threshold level.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for automatic uplink of weather information are provided. In one embodiment, a ground-based system for automatically communicating crowdsourced weather information comprises: at least one transceiver configured to communicate with vehicles via one or more communication links; a weather data processing system coupled to the at least one transceiver, the weather data processing system comprising at least one processor coupled to a memory, the at least one processor configured to: receive weather information from the vehicles; aggregate the weather information received from the vehicles and store aggregated weather information in the memory; automatically transmit aggregated weather information to a first vehicle of the vehicles via the one or more communication links in response to the weather data processing system receiving a radar error report from the first vehicle.
