    摘要: A method for end-capping polycarbonate resins, comprising the step of processing a mixture comprising a polycarbonate having free hydroxyl-end groups and an end-capping reagent in a melt transesterification reaction to produce a polycarbonate resin, wherein the end-capping reagent comprises a mixture of: (a) at least one species of a symmetrical activated aromatic carbonate, and (b) at least one species of an optionally-substituted phenol, whereby said end-capping reagent reacts with at least some of the free hydroxyl end-groups of the polycarbonate to produce an end-capped polycarbonate resin.

A copolymer comprises [polycarbonate]x moieties; (B) [symmetrical optionally activated aromatic carbonic acid diester]y moieties and (C) [optionally substituted aromatic hihydroxy compound, diol or diacid]z moieties, wherein x, y and z are mole percents of the copolymer.

    摘要: An optical grade article comprises a thermoplastic composition comprising a poly(aliphatic ester)-polycarbonate copolymer comprising 10 to 25 wt % of a soft block ester unit derived from a C20-44 aliphatic dicarboxylic acid or derivative thereof, 34 to 77 wt % of a carbonate unit derived from 2-hydrocarbyl-3,3-bis(4-hydroxyaryl)phthalimidine, 0 to 76 wt % of a carbonate unit derived from a dihydroxyaromatic compound not identical to the 2-hydrocarbyl-3,3-bis(4-hydroxyaryl)phthalimidine, wherein the weight percentages of soft block ester units, 2-hydrocarbyl-3,3-bis(4-hydroxyaryl)phthalimidine units, and dihydroxyaromatic compound units is 100 weight percent of the monomeric units of the poly(aliphatic ester)-polycarbonate, the refractive index of the thermoplastic composition is greater than 1.590, and the glass transition temperature of the poly(aliphatic ester)-polycarbonate is from 120 to 155° C. A camera lens also comprises the poly(aliphatic ester)-polycarbonate.

    摘要: A melt polymerized polycarbonate comprising repeat units in the polycarbonate derived from the melt polymerization of monomers (II) and/or (III), monomer (IV), and optionally monomer (VIII), wherein monomers (II) and (III) are diaryl dihydroxy compounds, monomer (IV) is a sterically hindered dihydroxy compound, and monomer (VIII) is a non-sterically hindered dihydroxy diaryl compound; wherein the mole ratio of repeat units in the polycarbonate derived from monomers [(II)+(III)]:(IV):(VIII) is 15-70:1-85:0-50, the sum of the mole percent of repeat units in the polycarbonate derived from monomers [(II)+(III)]+(IV) is greater than or equal to 50 mole %, and the sum of the mole percent of units in the polycarbonate derived from monomers [(II)+(III)]+(IV)+(VIII) is 100 mole %; and wherein the polycarbonate has an L* value that is at least 1 L* unit value higher than the same polycarbonate in which monomer (IV) is replaced by bisphenol A.
